Does anyone here think that when privatisaion go ahead, the current hourly rate will be lowered by the new owner?

TNT workers protest over pay cuts

HUNDREDS of workers at delivery firm TNT staged a protest rally against pay cuts which union leaders claim are crippling the workforce.

About 400 employees at the parcel delivery company marched through Atherstone Town centre on the 28th of September before demonstrating outside the firm’s head-quarters in Long Street.

Claims were made that full-time staff will losemore than £400 a month which could amount to a reduction of around £5,000 a year from their salary.

Union leaders claim the decision was made in January to reduce pay, but after months of negotia-tions the first cuts only came into force last month. Paul Davies, national officer for Unite, claims the company is ex-ploiting the recession for their own gains – at a huge cost to its workers.

He added:

No workman or woman can afford to lose this much money, it is a massive drop in pay The firm is taking advantage of the current economic climate to justify making pay cuts.

i for one would'nt be employed by tnt for previously being a trade union rep ,they would'nt want anyone who was a rep that's for certain.

OK, I haven't got the hang of this posting lark, but without cocking up another quote, I think it's important that the 'common struggle' - whatever you want to call it - of posties, TNT workers, firefighters, binmen, etc. - is recognised and that in some way we try and link up our battles, otherwise we just get picked off one by one. This strike is the biggest set-piece since the Miners in '84/'85, though we're at a lower baseline now than then - anyone for picking scraps out of the gutter in Mandelson's/Cameron's brave new world? I'm writing this in the bizarre position of being a RM employee who's actually not officially 'in dispute' - not being part of the 'letters' branch. Frankly, I think the whole RM network should have been called out (even if on staggered days) - letters, Post Office and Parcelfarce included - it galls me to be mistaken for a scab. Why play along with management's breaking up of RM into separate units ready for privatisation?
