Ok so were currently embroiled in a dispute with the employer, but does anyone get the impression RM are stalling for time given that a Conservative government looks most likely thereby signalling the end of of the postal service as we know it.
My concern is that, if RM is sold off to the private sector, would the CWU cease to exist or at best be weakened due to its representation of a splintered, fragmented workforce?
For example, Parcel Force employees are represented by the CWU but dont take IA when we do.
If RM is split into MC, DO and Dstribution, would the union loose much of its leverage?

I think you will find that TNT were only interested in Parcelforce. They only want the profitable parts of the business. TNT are suffering as well and would only buy Royal Mail if offered for a song.

Part privatisation on the railways hasn't destroyed the RMT, so why should it the CWU?
If anything, a union would be even more important to have, if this company was taken away from the public.

You need to look at the big picture here. The longer this dispute goes on, the less money RM is worth.rmdriver wrote:I think you will find that TNT were only interested in Parcelforce. Someone of a cynical mind would possibly come to the conclusion that Mandelson is rubbing his hands at the thought of selling RM nice and cheap to his mates, leaving the government with the pension deficit.
