Let's target the leeches (DSA)
Most of you agree that DSA is sucking the lifeblood out of our business so it is time to target these leeches. We need to make the public aware that we are doing their deliveries for them because many still do not realise this. We need to convince the mass mailers that their letters will be given priority if they use us directly. At the same time we can hit our competitors financially and make them reconsider whether they really want to be in this industry.
First, I propose that we offer to go in on strike days without pay to deliver OUR OWN mail. As we will not be getting paid we will simply be offering to help out the old and vulnerable who need our services, just like firemen who always go out on emergencies in the event of a serious fire when they are striking. What do you think? We gain the moral high ground, highlight the DSA problem to the general public and make big mail users reconsider their choice of supplier.
Second, let's stop treating DSA mail as being as important as our own. Those guys are after our profits and, as a result, our livelihoods why have we been helping them? Time to send back incorrectly addressed and stamped DSA stuff. If it is not 100% correct don't use your expertise to deliver it to the right address. Do not assist those companies to take your jobs.
Our management should have been fighting this battle against DSA but have not just stood back and watched them steal our customers, they have actually helped them in the process. We can do what they will not.

i agree but it'd need to be planned carefully, i guess when we go on the IPS, just look for the stamped mail and put the others to one side?

Re: Let's target the leeches (DSA)
I've always thought this was a good idea and might have been a better idea than striking. Then again, though, I suppose it leaves you open for accusations of not doing the job properly and legally you'd be in the same bind as refusing to do normal work. I personally started treating all DSA the same as mailsort on a Saturday years ago- in other words it doesn't go out. I work in a rural sub though, so it's probably easier to get away with as there is sod all chance of seeing a manager come out on a Saturday to check.

Re: Let's target the leeches (DSA)
I was told at my induction that it was illegal for Royal Mail to contact people who use DSA and offer a better price/service we can only approach people that do not already use DSA.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Re: Let's target the leeches (DSA)
My first suggestion when managers first came out pleading poverty for the company because of DSA was that RM simply undercut all the competition until they went away, even if it meant making a loss (which they reckoned they were doing anyway). I was then told though, that the government wouldn't allow it. This was over 2 years ago. Looks like good old Labour had it's eye on destroying RM some way back. I still can't believe that the CWU hasn't pulled the funding for this back-stabbing government.

How are we supposed to treat DSA normally, 1st class, mailsort etc?

Don't know if this is true, but the manager says DSA is supposed to go out the same day it comes in.Richie89 wrote:How are we supposed to treat DSA normally, 1st class, mailsort etc?

DSA mail in the old days would have been mailsort or 2nd class, hasit been noticed by anyone that on a Saturday there is an increase in DSA mail?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Let's target the leeches (DSA)
There are some DSA items with the word 'economy' written on them which are persumably the equivalent of Mailsort 3. But, effectively it's all treated as 1st by the time it reaches the DOPOSTMAN wrote:DSA is 1st class mail.

Re: Let's target the leeches (DSA)
Someone knocked sick this morning (the same person in our office who always knocks sick on a Saturday morning) and the call came from management that it had to sorted, prepped and delivered by everyone in the office. Then they said to take all the mailsort and DSA out seperately and leave that in the office. So, once again it looks like when it suits management class DSA as not first-class.
