Rolling Strike days mean someone gets lucky 2 weeks in a row

I've just read on the CWU website that next weeks strike day for delivery staff will be Saturday. I've got to say this has enraged me a bit as that means that the people who had there days off this week on Friday, who then got a full weeks pay and no black mark against them for striking will also do the same next week as their day off will be the Saturday. Who the hell thought this one up at CWU? I'm particularly peeved as the person who's day off it was today has been crowing on all week about how she doesn't support the strikes (but she's still in the Union for reasons unknown) even going as far as saying she would come and work her day off "just to show them". But then conveniently said that she had family coming over on her day off this week so "unfortunately" couldn't come in this week. The best of it is that I'm the day off cover, so now when she gets to work she'll have all the mail from today that I should have sorted/ delivered left for her, which she made no bones about telling me she thought it was unfair of me to so. Never mind that the person who's round I will be covering on Saturday was left undelivered as they were on strike leaving me with double the amount of mail and minus a days pay.
If this is going to continue much longer then I'd rather CWU stuck to the same days each week or else we all go out permanently until it is sorted.

This was mentioned a few times today, and I quite agree. In the end though it's the reasons behind the strike that matters.

You must just be unlucky like me. I will lose two more days as both my rest days will not fall on strike days.

i am 1 of the "lucky" ones this week and next week, but i agree with you, id be more than happy for it to fall on a different day next week which isnt my day off as i think its only fair.

I have lost every day so far, but others have not lost many days at all

When you put on the ballot paper an X in the STRIKE box, resign your self to losing a day a week at least.

And if a day is called thats your day off or annual leave, then count yourself lucky.

Im another lucky one who was of today and will be next saturday but during the last dispute I lost the whole eight days as i had no duty and was a reserve and these are the people who will suffer but i will be out to the end and lets hope you to dont have to lose the full wack and yes i did feel guilty but theres plenty more strike days coming up

P*ssed me off a bit but there the breaks arnt they some you win some you lose im sure they wont keep to this pattern i hope not.

May be these people could consider putting a percentage of there days pay into an office strike fund .

agreed,in 2007 i never had a day off on strike days
this year im on holiday(booked by DOM's at the start of the year) so i will score this week and next
however the union should think of these things,i know offices have different set ups but a lot use the 6 week rotation

I raised this question with my delivery office CWU rep and he told me he was one of those whose day off fell on the strike day and would also next week too.
He then told everyone he would be happy to swop his day off next week with someone whose day was not on a strike day

Today was my day off, next Saturday is my day off, I'm relived as to be 100% honest I'm 50/50 whether i would strike or not.

I applaud that rep ,it is also my day off today and saturday and i too will be seeing my rep and offering to swap days to a work comrade who will find it hard to lose another days pay ,we must look after each other :lfo

Quite honestly, I think this is an absolute joke, and suggests someone at the Union is as out of touch with things as Crozier and his mates.

Last time out, none of my days off fell on a strike day, while some people "got lucky" at least twice. Now the same thing is happening again. The thing is, this has nothing to do with luck, it's planned. It's not exactly rocket science is it? It should be organised so that everyone takes the pain equally.

It could all be a lot worse - someone at work opined that he hoped to be lucky enough to be on leave or week off ( his group is on a 5 weeks on, 1 week off rotation ) during strikes, not long after he was involved in a collision on his way to work and is now off on S/L with a broken shoulder, and with the temporary loss of SAs and OT is going to be financially worse off.
