Royal Mail would not be privatised it will be sold, shreaded and thrown into the abyss, All the work that the Royal Mail used to do will be done by TNT (bulk mail collections, sorting and deliveries) UK Mail (bulk mail collections and sorting) TNT, UK Mails, City Link and DPD (small mailling packet collections and deliveries)

Complete loss of seniority based privileges - including extra holidays.

Less chance of a shorter working week.

Less chance of Pay Rises.

No Union representation without a long drawn out dispute.

Owner walker rounds remain a possibility albeit fairly small one at the moment.

The jobs are likely to be part time, so when the jobs situation gets better I can see good people leaving and students, immigrants and others in between jobs taking on the work with the same sort of commitment levels and concern, i.e. crap with little motivation, you pay peanuts = you get monkeys.

I haven't done more than quickly look though some relevent sections, but as far as I can work out we would be covered under TUPE regs ( 1981 & 2006 ) or equivalent public sector protections. The one dodgy area might be the pension scheme, but everything paid in up to the Transfer of Undertakings would have to be honoured.

As for a privatisation, the big three parties all want to cash us in, but I believe the Lib Dems have said that they would like to use the John Lewis model ( where employeees automatically become shareholders are actively involved in the running of the company, and they all share in the profits ( between 9 - 20% of annual wage ) - the rest is ploughed back into the business ). Having said that, I can't see any Government letting RM transfer to a trust, not with the amount of snouts crowding the trough ( Mandelson, Brown, Darling, Crozier, Leighton, etc) and scores more hovering around it ( TNT, DHL, UK Mail, etc )
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Its ok we will change the title to formerroyalmailchat.co.uk - but it will be subsciption only because me and Postman will probably be at the head of the queue when they hand out the P45.
