Whats really going on with this strike ......

Post by felang13 »

Ok so we are on strike. We all know that RM alone cannot handle the situation as clearly the Government have an agenda, as we saw when thou RM seemed to agreed a way forward at the 11th hour it was torpedoed by the Government .That agenda is motivated by the desire to undermine Unions as an example to others who may seek to do the same in the forth coming months or years even , as this recession bites and public sector Unions fight to keep members pay and conditions in tact .Couple that with the fact that successive governments have used the Rm as a cash cow , underinvested, pension holidays and now late in the day as with the Railways realise that a serious modernisation plan is desperately needed , and want to pass that problem into the Private sector .Remember British Rail ...ridiculed and laughed about , and strangled of investment it was falling apart .Sold on ....it was private companies that took the blame for the Clapham train crash ...not the Government who just sold failing infrastructure problem on .Better sevice we were told ...free market prices ....what a joke as it all failed and today the old British Rail seems so much mightier than what we have now. Infact quietly the Railways was brought back into the Public sector and is now called Network Rail . The same is of Royal mail ...years of deliberate underinvestment has resulted in a failing service and the political arguments argue now for change and wish to pass that pass the problem on , along with the bribe that the Government would harbour the Pension defeceit,. The biggest weapon we have is to keep it political .The public has an affection for the Rm and PO, and the more we argue the case for public ownership the better . Mandelson after acting all big and tough ,has stepped back from sounding off , wanting now to put the ball back in RMs negotiating team and distance himself from it being politisied..as clearly the labour party not only would have to deal with the negative forthcoming Public vote, it has issues too with Union finance and ofcourse peed off Labour back benchers. assuming as we all know Labour are doomed at the next election , the Tories are even more hostile to public ownership ......i urge the Union to refloat the keep it Public campaigne , because the alternative is far worse . striking 8 weeks from christmas has focused minds and i'm sure the longer it goes on the more the Government will blame RM management for not resolving the issues when in fact the Government was burned by the reaction to Mandelsons interfering . Politics ..hey . the reality will be the Government will blink first ....public distain that its the Government who is undermining RM behind the scenes preventing an agreement so close to Christmas pressure will anger millions .. respect to all who have sacrificed in the last two days ....
