early morning shift allowance

I have been working on delivery from a mail centre since the beginning of this year, i am full time and transfered from a delivery office, since i transfered my £6.50 early morning shift allowance has disappeared from my wage packet, i was speaking to my old union rep from my old office this morning and he stated that this should not have happened and i am intitled to it as it was agreed with the union in the last strikes that this will not be stopped is this true? if it is i now have to go to my union rep and manager to sort it out, good news is when it gets back dated i will pick up about £250

As far as im aware it was only if you changed jobs within RM that you could lose it not if you changed units.

Btw why is it only £6.50, were you p/t,mine is £12.37

fed_up_postie - if you transferred voluntarily you will not keep any allowance you kept as "grandfather rights" under network 2007/later starts.

Not about the amount as it should be almost double this rate, but that aside, unless your transfer was compulsory you would lose the allowance with effect from the date of transfer. In fairness this should have been explained to you at the time of your transfer, but it wouldn't be a massive surprise that it wasn't.

The transfer was compulsory, it was move unit or lose my job, had a bit of trouble with a member of public and had to have an interview with a senior manager but as i had a clean record i kept my job but had to move to another unit

Don't want you to get into chapter and verse on what happened here, but essentially it breaks down like this:

If the move to another unit was part of a conduct penalty, then the move was compulsory and your allowance should have been preserved (unless removal of it was specifically stated as part of the penalty)

If the move was voluntary, sort of a "jump before you're pushed" move that you opted for as an alternative to a conduct penalty then the allowance would go.


In short - if you were moved as any form of penalty, then you should still be getting the allowance (and would be entitled to arrears payment of same)

The move was part of a conduct penalty but nothing was said about me losing it so i will be in touch with my union rep on monday and will try to sort it out thanks for all you help!

would grandfathers rights apply if you received the £12.37 before longs and shorts?

I ask because several 40hr and 35hr people in my office now only receive the £6.50.
