Just been reading the comments section of the online newspapers, some of the people leaving comments just don't have a clue as to why we are striking, it's really p****ng me off! You know the ones, the sack the lot of 'em , go and get another job if you don't like it,it's all greed, greed,greed brigade some people even boasting that they "had their mail delivered today"
Well if they actually read the papers watched the news they would know which day the posties are out on strike!!!
Instead they all just jump on the bandwagon, if only they knew the real reasons why we have been forced to take action .... As they say on the x files "the truth is out there"

Its not just Joe Public - The Daily Poltics had a peice about emails from customers and one said he had a postie deliverying today and from that the 2 people in charge of the programme inferred that obviously the strike was not 100%.

Deliveries on Strike tomorrow you ill informed "commentators" on industrial matters.

not true!!!! you have to remember its only now media are starting to report it - until now they have just murmered strikes about pay. Second, alot of people i have come across from all classes say the management are a shambles and support the staff
I wouldnt pay too much attention to online comments from customers, many are probably just bored at home. I mean, anyone at work wouldnt really be allowed to spend time online writing comments. The only exception is small business owners - and that is understandable

Good point. I've had nothing but support on my walk. If most of the moaners can't even be bothered to come out and ask me what is going on, then I suspect they're just venting behind the anonymity of the net.

I too have had nothing but support from the public, i think the message that the dispute isnt over pay is slowly reaching the public now, i had ten people stop me on my walk today firstly to ask why i was delivering during a strike, once i had explained that deliveries were out tomorrow and that i was striking because RM's 'Modernisation' is going to mean a worse service for them and businesses etc......every one of them wished me luck and were right behind us, even a guy who was concerned over getting parcel out to a family member in the Armed Forces was behind us.

thought id give it a try...have just spoken about the strikes with a customer of mine whos at work now. He runs his own independant wine company here in London. he said you cant help but get angry with them, but you know its not really their fault. Its becoming very obvious they are being shafted by management....

When I joined this site I had exactly the same views as you've listed above - my view of the strike was that it was essentially over wage increases and a refusal to cut jobs.

Now I have read a bit of the other side of the story, from the people (i.e. you folks) the issues really affect, and I will freely admit my opinion has changed.

Of course my intial views were formed on the basis of what I had read in the media.

The more customers are educated about the real reasons behind this action, the more they should get behind you. I hope. I can only speak for myself, but I found it very interesting that certain aspects of the industrial action seem to be 'glossed over' in the media and certain others highlighted.

I noticed alot of support today from good, working class people, and shop owners who i deliver to. But if i had a pound for evey time someone said "thaught u was on strike today" id have enough money to cover tomorrows loss. lol.

its nice to hear that some people support us. hope they are the same tomorrow when were out on the picket.

The Sun is playing it part in trying to discredit the postman. Turns out the 70 stone bloke that we have all been reading about over the last week, was a naughty postman. I won't bother posting a link, but if you do go looking for it, make sure you read the misinformed comments from their readership. It's almost funny......if it wasn't.

Nothing hurts us more than misinformed politicians getting in on the act, the ever in touch Ken Clarke on radio 5 just stated that we now only work 7hr days 35hr week and we must be made to work the full 7 hrs.
What an out of touch jerk to go along with the many more of them that will sadly be in power next year, can't wait!

Just for the record I work my full 48hrs every week( 6 day duty)and more on top when the mail warrants it, most people who now enter employment with RM are offered between 20 and 30hr contracts.

Well well well, someone who thought they knew what it was about, based on what they read in the media but still took the effort to see it from both sides. If only everyone was as reasonable as you. Thank you!

Just makes you wonder what else in the media has been reported like this strike has and what the truth is about a lot of things you see in the news.
