Remember that golden 'job and finish' carrott they dangled in front of us years ago? People still like to think that it's there and that if they come in early, rush around they can finish early and go home and don't once think of the consequences. One dipship in my office says on a regular basis "Oh can't see me finishing before 12:30 today" idiot as he is.

People who start before their time are usually either, incompetent, not up to the job, or cowards, afraid to go to their DIM and tell it that they won't be able to complete, I usually find that's the case.

Its 'job and finish' at our office and pretty much the full office comes in early besides a few.

Im part time so start at 9-9.15 depending on the day and come in at my time - end up 9 times out of 10 being literally the last postie out the office and driver usually has to come back for my bags cause when hes makin his 'last call' im not long in the door! Others with same start time are coming in at like half 8 sometimes even earlier! In fact one guy came in at his time and I overheard someone say 'did ye sleep in or somethin?'.

Makes me look slow too

Same sort of thing where I am - because everyone else is coming in for free and using their own cars, I'm the one who looks bad/slow because I do the job properly. I might be finishing about 2 hours later but I'm happy in the knowledge that I'm doing the job the way it should be done and getting lots of overtime in the process.

Then RM have a valid reason to make the rounds even bigger - it's thanks to these guys I now end up working longer (4 out of 5 days over my duty time). Eventually they will all work their hours (as Crozier says) so coming in early will be futile.
