Modernisation

Post by Wild Rover »

It's the word we keep hearing.

In the run up to 2007 strikes, RM mentioned "we must modernise" as a company.

So, in 2009, and before next batch of strikes, what EXACTLY have RM done to modernise?

The only modernisation in my place is new bogs :chuckle

The only modernisation we have is a terrorist manager with a 'loud' tie.

its true. modernisation to rm is cutting jobs, saving hours by absorbing and getting the mail out at all costs. what a joke.

Maybe I'm missing something here but I'd guess 80%+ of our mail (letters) comes in walksorted trays or bundles. Therefore we only have a fraction of the people we used to have sorting letters in the morning and a higher % of part time staff.

Isn't this modernisation? Royal Mail bosses and politicions keep bleating on about the job like nothing has changed;it has.

No modernisation in my office, save for PDAs for the drivers.

Lapsing scrapped after 2 weeks

Pegasus unimplemented and scrapped after 18 months planning - table top reision now underway.

2 indoor reviews scrapped. 3rd incarnation due to come in in february.

Walk Sequencing scrapped after 2 days.

Absolutely no modernisation in my office unless you count the hiring of part time staff to cover 8 EVRs.

Im doing exactly the same job with the same tools i have done since RM2000s were introduced.

Wheres the 1.3 billion gone?

If getting out after 11am and finishing around 4pm I hate to think what the future hold, seem like royal mail has gone backwards rather than forward

Modernisation is simply a buzz word. It conveys the impression that an industry is trying to drag itself out of the 19th century and into the 21st. Therefore, any organisation, or each and every individual who is opposed to modernisation, is something akin to Genghis Khan and the barbarous hordes of Mongolia.
This is why a country run by people who have turned it's parliament in to a sink full of corruption, and a business run by people cut exactly from the same cloth as the most dishonest of politicians, bandy the word "modernisation" around like it will go out of fashion tomorrow.

The real words they should all be using are, COST, and CUTTING, because cost cutting is all they've been about since 2003 and the introduction of SDD.
