Thurs strike action instead of Fri for some delivery offices

Post by RichEnigma »

During a 'huddle' today our line manager told us delivery staff in Swansea would be out on strike action Thursday and not Friday. Apparently it's something to do with us being based in the same building as processing so we have to strike at the same time as the indoor workers. It wasn't explained in detail and no one seemed to question it (there was also no union representive present since our local rep is off this week).
So is this happening in other offices? Are some delivery staff out on strike this Thursday instead of Friday or is it just another example of management in Swansea doing whatever suits them, even changing the dates of nationally publicised strike action?!

Hate to spoil your plans but they are right.
If you are a Delivery Office within a Mail Centre, then you are due to take action on Thursday, if you are a standalone Delivery Office then you will take your action on Friday. :cfo

it's happening here too. Because we're classed as a mail centre , Deliveries and processing go out on Thursday. Otherwise we would each be, in effect, crossing the other functions picket line.

Well just read through another topic and someone posted this:

"Bear in mind that D.O's attached to a Mail Centre are going to be on strike Thursday rather than Friday as mine is."

So it seems it is going to happen in other offices later this week but why does being based in the same building alter things? (Forgive my ignorance, I've only been a post man for 9 1/2 years  )
It's obvious how it's going to look this Friday when people are having breakfast and watching or reading the news about postal workers across the country being out on strike and then there'll be some of us putting mail through their doors...
Oh well, I'll make sure anyone I see that day knows the situation ("I had to strike yesterday instead of today!") and to prove my non-scabbing credentials I'll tell them the true story of how I opened my ballot paper, voted in favor of strike action and posted it within 10 minutes of receiving it!

Actually, reading through that again I realise I made a mistake. Because by the time I, like a lot of others these days, start delivering, people will have already ate their breakfast and watched the morning news and may just be tuning into the afternoon news...

Portsmouth deliveries are going out on Thursday, as we are based in a mail centre.

For what day your going out, best check with your area rep..

Copperas Hill ( Liverpool's main sorting office) which houses D.O for the Postcodes L1 - L8 are going out Thursday too, with the outlying delivery offices on the Friday.
