newbie dilema

i started part time 2 weeks ago,i am picking the job up quite quickly and getting to know everyone,i like working outdoors aswell,but recently found out that i and the other newbie are being sent to work in the main mail centre full time for 2 weeks at some point in the run up to xmas.i have been told that i can pick what shift i want,i had my induction at the mail centre and i hated the place,it looked a very tedious place to work being stuck indoors for 12 hour shifts,can they actually make me work there?do i have to work full time shifts?

fraid so, You probably arent on a fixed cost centre yet so can be moved from pillar to post,within reasonable distance.I think they call it a 'reasonable request'.

but what about the full time shifts? i am on 25 hours but they say i have to do full time for that 2 weeks?

At my office, a reasonable request is telling you on a Saturday morning "dont make any plans for the weekend" when you've just finish your Mon-Fri 5 Day wk & switching you to a 4 Niter (Rotating Nite Off) + 2 out of 3 Sunday Nite on at the drop of a hat !!! Not bad for 21 yrs service, no resign - nothing ! Cost me approx £5000 in s/a payments.

I could be wrong, but if you have a permanent 25 hr contract (even if you are still in your trial period) they can ask you to work over 25 hr, but they can't make you.

They done it to me when i first started . First xmas was shipped to a delivery office 6 miles away from my own D/O for 2 weeks ,dont worry it wont happen the following year or maybe it will knowing R/M.
