Day off on the picket

we have been informed by our manager that anyone attending the picket line on their day off, or on annual leave or on sick will have a days pay docked! Does anyone know of any legislation surrounding attending picket lines when absent from work?

He's talking bullcrap - you can do what you like on your day off, or annual leave - sick days are a slightly different matter and I would advise anyone not to attend the picket - unless of course your Dr advises it as part of your remedy

First of all tell him that you would like a grievance form

Next tell him that when you get off duty you will be calling the bullying & harassment line reporting this incident

Then tell him that under "part two, section 13 of the employment act 1996" reguarding the "UNLAWFUL deduction of wages" you will be taking him personally to the small claims court for all UNLAWFUL deductions from your wages as he himself has autherised said deductions

And also that you reserve the right to make a complaint to the employment tribural service within 90 days of the incident

then wait for the reply........

How would that work it does not even make sense especially the day off part.

SO for instance your day off is Friday.

Monday - Work (Paid)
Tuesday - Work (Paid)
Wednesday - Work (Paid)
Thursday - Work Paid
Friday - Strike/Day Off - (Not paid)
Saturday - Work (Paid )

So which day does he want you to work and then refuse to pay you. I guess this manager did not think things through.

PS annual leave - I was on if for a week in 2007 - my pay was never docked.

I spoke with my manager today, he has since retracted the not getting paid for your day off - which made him look a bit dupid! however both he and the DOM are atill adament that anyone picketing on annual leave will be a docked a days pay. They say this is a memo that is being circulated Nationally so many of you may get this drilled into you at WTLL!

which day would they be docking you for exactly?

They would then owe you a days holiday!!

If it is you day off - go down in civvies and not uniform, don't wave banners or touch CWU material and you'll be fine I think they would find it hard to dock your wages for visiting a public place.

I went to another picket line with food and a cake on my day off.One off the managers seen me, wanted a photo shouting at the other dims to get one of me.I just told him to get one for the wife and bairns.
