30,000 is good news

Post by Cut Off King »

Royal mails anouncement that its going to employ 30,000 casuals up to xmas should be seen in its true light!

It means that in reality only 15,000 extra staff will have been hired, as RM normaly hire 15,000 staff at xmas.
But the cost of these agancy workers will be massive. £15 p/h X 40 X 15,000 adds up to £9 Million a week.
Also these inexperianced workers won't be able to work at the same pace as we do. So there effectiveness will be further deminished. ( often you see two go out on one walk, and still they bring back mail ! ) I have seen agency workers close up at work for RM. We had a near blind man sent, also several that couldn't read properly and even some who struggled with simple English. Not all were like that but a high % were.
And if RM managers start to bully them as they bully us , then on minuim wage they are going to leave if they can.

To me this move smacks of desperation.

Royal mails true plans were laid bare for all to see in that leaked document.
They have anounced the extra workers to the press , public and the DSA companys so as to appear to be in control.
Fact is - 15,000 extra staff ( + 5000 managers ) won't make a lot of difference to the backlog , as anyone who has been on strike lately and has had their office flooded with extra managers will tell you about managers workrates and also like ladies going to the toilet, they have to go in pairs. Hardly efficiant !

So Be prepaired to strike long term, make saving like cutting your shopping bills by shopping at aldi / lidl etc. Cut back your SKY subscripion. Cancel you Mobile phone contract and go PAYG instead. Make your old clothes last a bit longer. Don't have take-aways for a few months. ask friends for odd job work to help bring in some extra cash.
Theres lots you can do to last the course.
Lets stick together and see this through.

10% DECLINE IN MAIL YEARLY (yeah right)
66'000 LESS STAFF TO DEAL WITH IT...(from the saving of the last agreement)
5'000 MANAGERS (what good are they they on most part are the lasiest of postman)
30'000 CASUALS (great for the unemployment figures for a short space of time)

Obviously RM hope that news of up to 30,000 temp workers will have us all saying, "What is the point of going on strike cos RM have got these workers in."
But the reality will be 30,000 temp workers = huge operational costs, more headaches for management and more smiles on our faces while RM have egg on theirs!

Bring it on............

How many of these 30,00 will be left after a couple or three deliveries. The first day will be a shock to the system, the second a reality check that it just don't get easier as the week goes on and if on the third day it rains they will be off like the fooking road runner back to whence they came.

Why don't Crozier, Higson and all their lackies set us all an example and get their wet weather gear on and show us where we are going wrong, not forgetting that while we are waiting for them to take up the challenge Christmas is getting ever closer.

I'll never forget the time I saw two casuals prepping the same walk in our office - one left handed and one right handed!

I also rememeber a young chineese girl who was asked if she knew how to bag up the walk to which she replied yes. So the manager gave her a couple of pouches and she started pulling random hand fulls of mail out of the frame and just dropping it in the bag! She spent the next hour putting it back into the frame and I'm not certain she understood what she'd done wrong.

So how does the backlog get clear if the casuals are not going onto deliveries?
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

I doesn't, but the public & DSA companys are being lied to make them think that RM management are in control :left:

The managers are going to do the deliveries :left:
Suppose they really did take on 30,000 agency staff . Wage bill then doubles to £18 million A WEEK and thats on top of our wages :left: . Funny how they have that much money handy to do that , as well as open outhouses and pay managers to "work" (Postman , any sign of that rolling around the floor laughing smiley ?) in other areas, paying travel expenses and accomodation. Part of their "contingency plan" I suppose  .
Some muppet obviously thinks its better to throw money around instead of investing in the staff they already have who know the job already. I mean £18 million divided by 120,000 staff is £150 a week EACH ! Multiply that by 9 weeks (its 9 weeks till Christmas on Friday) and that gives £1,350 for every single one of the 120,000 staff ! (£18 million x 9 weeks is £162,000 000). Funny how they say there is NO MONEY to give us a pay rise or bonus but they do have money to throw away just to get our backs up :evil/mad :cfo :mfo

The RM publicity machine doesn't know how to tell the truth
I seriously doubt whether they will take on more than 10,000 next week and these are only part of the 15,000
that they already intend to hire just brought forward a week or so.
Nobody can craft finely woven bullshit like an RM spokesperson/exec.
