RMs Strike day tactics

Please read the attached. It is vital members support and are not encouraged into breaking the strike by any method, of Royal Mail.

You will need to be aware of the info below received from the North West.


Found out today that management are offering members in Runcorn Delivery Office five options for next weeks strike day

1. Work as normal

2. Work in a nearby office

3. Swap their day day off to the strike day

4. Work back Fridays hours over the course of the following week

5. Book strike day as annual leave.

The tactic is obviously to be able to claim that a high percentage of members were not on strike in order to distort the true effectiveness of the dispute. Anybody accepting one of the options would not be counted as being on strike.

Could you please ensure that the members are aware of this and make it clear that, whilst options 3,4 or 5 may seem to some to be harmless, the intention is to undermine the true figure of those on not working on strike days.

I am sure that the vast majority of members will see this trick for exactly what it is, a cynical not very clever attempt to create a media story.

However it is vitally important that we make this known to the membership before management offer it in other units and urge them to treat the offer with the contempt it deserves.

- I've heard this is a widespread practice now, and one that some weaker minded members will take up as an easy option that doesn't involve crossing a picket line.

The main thing is people won't lose money so it might be popular. Thing is, how many people are allowed to be off at the same time. Health abd safety should have a figure of the maximum amount of people allowed off at one time.

No, as it's a strike day Royal Mail will be more than happy for EVERYBODY to be off that day so long as it's EVERYBODY'S day off so NOBODY is actually on strike. On all other days of the week there's 17% or so extra in, as it's nobody's day off, but that 17% extra will be useful in clearing the backlogs we've all got. Royal Mail get the work done without anyone on strike, posties don't lose pay, so it's only the CWU and our long term future that loses out. Sad, but true.

Definately YES, but only IF the CWU has announced strikes for the first two weeks of June.
