Disgraceful Leadership of CWU
Never in my 60 years of life have I ever experienced such a diabolical display from any leader of any organisation than I witnessed tonight from Billy Hayes. I feel ashamed that such an inefeective man can represent 120.000 people who rely on his every word that represents us. The revelations that came to light on newsnight should have been a coup de tat for the CWU and he let a none mover in the dispute takeover and lambast the union membership. We dont want a ultra left trotskiyte determined to have his own way whatever. We need someone who can defend our cause. The ammunition was there and he failed. In my limited experience as a union rep and my interaction with reps in other branches I can recognise several union representatives who could have taken the Newsnight revelations to higher stratospheres.
Perhaps Bily might seek advice from other union leaders on how they would have dealt with this. Ther are other Union General Secretaries out there who I might not agree with but they would have taken full advantage of the Newsnight report. Billy seems totally inept. Dave Ward, possibly, would have been better equipped, having seen representations over the past weeks.
London branches recently voted to suspend payments from the political fund to labour. All members should have voted on this subject in accordance with motions passed at conference. The PEC should morally and in accordance with conference motions cease to provide funds for the labour party.
With the CWU current leadership we as members can only hope that other unions will read the writing on the wall. If the CWU goes down then every other union will be targeted to go the same way, and with that there will end democracy in our country.

Belial. Are you someone who does not face up to life, always in denial, just determined to be right. We need real leadership of somepone in a real world. I for one will be on the picket line and I have promoted the need for my colleagues to be there. Guess what? With reasoned argument against mangement propoganda posted over every door and windo in the MC they will follow me and our reps
Here is something for you to think about. The member of the union dont all come from London and Liverpool. There are probably a bigger percentage that come from outside large connurbations. These people can make the difference between successful IA or failure and they have to be pursuaded that what we as a union is right. At his time I can tell you that they are puruaded by the reason for IA but they can be easily be pursuade my management to go the other way when they see Billy looking like a total waste of space.

I'm no great supporter of Billy but I thought he did ok and managed to stick to the point for a change. But I do think that Dave W should do the talking wherever possible though,

Hayes was useless, especially on paying money to Labour. The interviewer should have said 'ISN'T THAT LIKE TURKEYS GIVING MONEY TO BERNARD MATTHEWS ?'
Of course he isn't going to answer that question - he's got his political career ahead of OUR interests

Re: Disgraceful Leadership of CWU
have to say i was disapointed by Billy Hayes performance,
I thought the Labour mp did a better job standing up for the union...
A decent speaker could have had a field day with all the crap that was being dished out and really given the public a proper insight into the real dispute but as usual Billy had one point to put across and just kept repeating why not acas why not acas..
Heard him on a interview on 5live this morning saying the same thing over and over again..
Don't get me wrong Acas is a relly important point but there is so much more to say..

Billy Hayes
Dour, glum, uninspiring, boring, characterless, ineffectual, monosyllabic, repetitive, lifeless, useless, ditherer, and thats just his good points.
20 minutes of my life i will never get back watching him squirm last night,
acas, acas acas, thats all he blubbered on about.
In the transfer window in January, can we no get in that guy from the underground train drivers(as much as i dislike him), at least he sounds and looks like hes up for the fight.
!

Re: Disgraceful Leadership of CWU
born Labourite , he's always pulled his punches with them even when New Labour were in opposition in the 90's - never said anything to rock the boat and old school union beaurocrat , an old fashioned tub thumper at bestCarnoustie wrote:Hayes was useless, especially on paying money to Labour. Oldest one in the book , scupper this strike for us and we'll look after you i.e. Alan Johnson , they know when it comes to being reelected , they're not exactly at the top of a head hunter's list , Keggie got a job with Unison but it was a drop in grades .
At one time talking to tribal Labourites , disaffiliation was the perennial " Loony Trot " motion , then they said it was the trots stirring it up but now the chickens have come home to roost .
Mandy & B-Liar wanted privatization as revenge for too many strikes in the 90's , never , never ever underestimate that vindictive bitter old Queen
Brown was alleged to have threatened Ward in 2007 , I'm inclined to believe it as New Labour went down in the polls and Brown got called for bottling a snap general election .
The biggest myth going is that a cosy deal was hatched in a restaurant about Brown taking over - it's crap ! - Brown was compromised as B-Liar had stuff on him that could be proven in court , Brown has stuff on B-Liar but it's not prove able and guess who pulls the strings on all this

This is the thing i cant understand, Mandleson and all his dodgy previous misdemeanours, his love of all things european, the part privatisation of the business, the loss of jobs, the downsizing of royal mail, the "unfair" competition we have to deal with, this rubbish called modernisation, and still, people on here vote labour, the very people who want you out of a job.
I really cannot fathom it.

There is people that hate Bob Crow in the RMT , BUT even his detractors say he does not mess about and the strikes he calls are right . The rank and file felt let down by the " corrupt right wing old guard " .
The Railway was originally deliberately fragmentized by the Tories to neutralize the Unions i.e. ASLEF , RMT & TSSA but that backfired particularly with ASLEF , the difference today with the railway as it's fragmented the unions have easy access to the very top management of the various companies and sometimes ! solve disputes . With RM it's ridiculously centralized and many managers simply don't have any real authority to deal with anything . It's like Communist Russia , all roads leading to Moscow , in RM's case it's everything leading to 148 Old St and ultimately number 10 with :mfo 's fingerprints all over everything .
There's been traditionally bad blood between the NUR / RMT - the arguments , the old school Labourites give is - " Where do you go if you disaffiliate ? " - to be fair the CWU have had some success blocking :mfo 's privatization .
I don't buy all this stay in New Labour and fight back and regain control of the party

Billy Hayes!!! I watched the programme and couldn't believe it..... they had some guy on from "Policy Exchange" whatever that is - what the hell does he know about RM and its practices???? Billy let us down (AGAIN!) - he should have eaten that guy for breakfast and spat him out............. The MP did a much better job!

Re: Disgraceful Leadership of CWU
just watched a reply of it , thought the MP was ok. labour is split as a party, with Mandelson and co on one side and Geraldine Smith and the like on the other. our only hope as RM employees and the Labour party in general is that Mandelson gets swamped . thought Billy Hayes did ok , he is not the best granted ...
