Dear Colleague

National Dispute - Strike Action

Further to the positive Ballot Result and LTB 901/09 the Postal Executive have now authorised Strike Action. The strikes are to be held on a functional/site specific basis as detailed below:

Mail Centres/Network

All duties, Scheduled Attendance and overtime commencing at or after 04.00 Thursday 22nd October 2009 and before 04.00 Friday 23rd October 2009.

Delivery, MDECs, Collection Hubs and MTWs on Separate Sites

All duties, Scheduled Attendance and overtime commencing at or after 21.00 Thursday 22nd October 2009 and before 21.00 Friday 23rd October 2009.

Glad its my rotating day off Saturday.

Of course! No one is an employee that day. I'm only glad it has been called we were discussing going to Witherspoons for breakfast on Friday after the picket is over - it would have been a bit of a let down - even more so if they call it off.

No No not dirty beer - I really did mean breakfast, you know bacon and eggs and toast and just talking about it is making me hungry - I'm Tea total, never touch a drop of alcohol ever, even at Christmas - and no I'm not a recovering alcoholic, I suppose I was like Saul on the road to Damascus only mine was a flight of stairs when I saw the light

Always teetotal, gave up alcohol on medical grounds or can't afford to drink on our wages, might I ask ?

I had a revelation of sorts, after downing copious amounts of beer from lunchtime one Sunday until 10 pm at night and crawling up about 40 stone steps to get home, I realised that it was no longer enjoyable and decided that I would not drink again. That was almost thirty years ago. I had been in the forces for a number of years and did not really drink then to excess, but when I left and returned home my brothers and in law persuaded me to play darts and doms and pool - I am a fairly solitary person, do not need friends or a social life outside my immediate family and have never drunk since. Even at Union meetings I drink either tonic water or orange juice.

Many go off the rails after leaving the forces, hence the high proportion of ex-servicemen homeless or in jail, but it's great news that you sorted yourself out and are making such a valuable contribution on here.
