STAGE 3

Post by MAILMAN84 »

Right guys, resuscitating this thread as my dismissal meeting is on Monday and I'd like some advice on it all.

Basically I've had about 3 weeks off in 3 and a half years, I've already had a stage 3 where I brought up that I had panic attacks and mental anxiety problems. The AM was ready to fire me but couldn't as he'd messed up with referring me to occupational health. HE said if i had another stage 3, he would fire me without questions kinda thing. He said the mental health didnt really come into it as I didn't mention it to RM when I joined.

I've accumulated another 2 absenses. First of 1 day on a Saturday which was because one of my friends nearly died and i went to the hospital. At the time I came back on the MOnday, I didn't get a return to work and the boss then wrote out the return to work instead of interviewing and put down 'tired'. I was a bit asleep on that day so didnt really read it before I signed it. I didn't expect to be off again but I had a Wed and Thursday off a few months later due to being too afraid to leave the house.

I have spoke to ATOS and they say it seems like I have a problem and royal mail would need to take that into account and make reasonable adjustments. The problem is that out of all the days off I have had over the 3 and a half years, a lot of them ARE 1-day Saturdays and Mondays

My problem is, how do I avoid being fired? As for reasonable adjustments last time, they didn't refer me to anyone and they have recently made me stay 6 weeks in a distant office (10 miles away) and didn't get me transport home. They have given newbies toi the office their own duties. They also arranged my dismissal interview. I came in and they told me they had moved it to next monday after i'd arrived at 7am on my time off for it.....

I think I've had it but my real question is how to maximise my case. Also worth mentioning someone who has left the office now who was off a LOT had a sweet deal with the then manager to put any sick absences through as holidays so he didnt even get a first stage and now I'm out the door. Been off 3 days in a year btw, 2 weeks off going back to a stage 1 when this triggered!

Thanks guys, union help appreciated also

Aren't mental anxiety problems classed as a disability? Get onto your branch, or ask your Rep to get onto your branch and find out for certain. Just because you might not have suffered mental health problems when you started with RM, doesn't mean you couldn't have developed them later on.
