It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

is it one that plots looped deliveries starting from and returning to a parked vehicle? I can do that with my bike - without the aid of a computer program.

In the North East, RM have re-run Geo Route, using a new Call Rate. In Bradford Area, we had, mostly, a Call Rate of 89% used when they ran Geo Route in 2007.

Now they say both traffic and Call Rate have fallen, and they have used an 82% Call Rate to re-plot walks. Or rather to draw up new proposed walks. We are now in various stages of disagreement in the BD, HD and HX area over this re-run of Geo Route.

Geo Route was proved to be shite in 2007, as in my office 13 walks were taken out by Executive Action, only to see 5 put back in later because the new walks were unachievable.

This time, I have been collecting evidence of the same. For instance:

Walk 9N, according to Geo Route, with a Call Rate of 82%, is not a 3 and 1/2 hour walk, but a 2 hours 24 minutes walk.

I tested it recently, on a Saturday in September, with an actual Call Rate of 75.1%, and it still took 3 hours and 10 minutes.

Or Walk 14N. which according to Geo Route, with a Call Rate of 82%, should take 2 hours 29 minutes. :d'oh!

When I tested it, on a Friday in September, with an actual Call Rate of 79.8%, it actually took 3 hours and 10 minutes. :hmmmm

Are you beginning to see the picture?

1. There is no direct relation between the Call Rate and the Delivery Span. The Delivery Span does not reduce in line with the Call Rate.

2. Geo Route / Pegasus is cobblers.

Any use?
When it comes down to it, full-time release reps like me don't have to do the job, the ordinary rank and file do.
Full-time reps sometimes need reminding who they represent. There's no time like the present...

They were trialed with us (Before the implementation of EA). Every delivery took nearly 5 hours! The man with the laptop couldn't work out why!
The awnser? PEGASUS DOESN'T WORK YOU FOOL!
He gave up on the shared van option and produced the diabolical sham deliveries we have now!
Only the other day one of our linos produced maps he had devised in March for new deliveries. He wants to put them in before Christmas, and wants our thoughts! I think not! :no no

Pegasus 1
used geo route to calculate route lengths, allowed user to input steep or flat terain(note not how steep, just steep), user will input internal lengths and number of floors on flats etc, after all delivery points were plugged in, user then worked out vaious routes and then produced a skyline output showing the time of said routes

Pegasus 2
uses georoute v2 to calculate route length, uses data from Ordanace Survey and already knows the terrain, user will input internal lengths and number of floors on flats etc, after all delivery points were plugged in, user then worked out vaious routes and then produced a skyline output showing the time of said routes

Main difference is the map data will already be input so to speak and then the out put cant be fiddled with (making the whole route flat when it isnt or whole route steep when it isnt)

Walking rates are still input manually

but the point a lot of people dont realise is geo route IS NOT a fantastic program which will work out the most efficient route, it only calculates the journey time of a chosen route which has been input by the operator, it does not tell you the best route it only tells you the time for the route that has been inputted into the program

If you do a lot of flats does it count each step? I mean how would it know exactly how may steps per flight there were? Does it take gates into consideration? Does it stand at the door for 5 minutes writing out a P739 only for the recipient to then open the door? Does it take a couple of comfort breaks? Does it walk on ice in the winter? Does it get rain soaked and wind blasted? Does it stop and talk to an irritated sod who's giro hasnt turned up? Does it stop for a drink?

just a couple of points for everyone, we ran pegasus in our office, it actually ran very well,

any problems with route times is completley due to operator error, most likely half of you delivery points have not been included, ie a block of flats should be 8 or 10 del points not 1 as you miss out on the credit for going to each door,

our office took months to input all the points we went over the walk logs about a dozen times to make sure we got every single del point in accurately, am not going to go into why we had to go over it so much, suffice to say if you dont then half the updates dont get "approved" each time, so you think you have updated and added 100 points but in fact only 60 go on, so you need to go through again and add the 40 again and again till it finally goes on,

now heres the secret, before they produce any new walks, ask them to print out a skyline for the walks as they are at the moment, this will surprise you, we were very pleased with the one it produced for our office, the sky line will tell you how long each walk is at the moment, so you can quickly say, theres a problem somewhere, its only saying my walk is 2 and half hours when its nearly 4, you then go back todrawing board and find out where the problem is, ie a road has been joined up which you cant actually access through or something,

they wanted to cut hours in our office, pegasus came back and said we were all working too hard!!!!

so what happened was, the operators went away for a couple of weeks to work out the new superduper fancy walks, lets just say they couldnt work, so what happened next, pegasus routes flung to f**k, used their initial output :left: as a starting point and done a table top revision, most walks now shortened, and extra outdoor hours allocated to the office! :nana :nana

pegasus is great as long as it is used correctly, make sure in you office, that it is your youngest most computer literate guy who is putting the data in, the other offices nearby all f****d up, and are not happy with their outputs, funny that, they started to update the system and finished within a few weeks, we dont see how that was possible without huge missing numbers of delivery points,

ask to see your walk log from Aplus atfer they finish the updates and if even 1 delivery point is no individually mentioned tell them you want it corrected before they move on

mclovin wrote:If you do a lot of flats does it count each step? YES all internal lengths should have been measured accurately for every single block of flats by whoever is doing the inputting, this should have been done over a couple of weeks

I mean how would it know exactly how may steps per flight there were? No i believe there is a standard number of steps programmed into th system, so when the user inputs 3 floors, it knows there are 3 floors times x number of steps per floor, X is built into the program,

Does it take gates into consideration? YES there is a preset value of time allocated to each delivery point, i believe it is 9 seconds for every delivery point, to include opening and shutting gate and opening and shutting letter box, this is on top of walking time

Does it stand at the door for 5 minutes writing out a P739 only for the recipient to then open the door? NO sorry it just doesnt

Does it take a couple of comfort breaks? No supposed to, all it does is tell you the length of the duty

Does it walk on ice in the winter? doesnt give a s**t what the weather is, walking speed is fixed reagrdless(what the walking speed should be set at is a different topic)

Does it get rain soaked and wind blasted? doesnt give a s**t what the weather is, walking speed is fixed reagrdless(what the walking speed should be set at is a different topic)

Does it stop and talk to an irritated sod who's giro hasnt turned up? as i said it only calculates the time it should take to complete the delivery if all you were doing was walking and delivering

Does it stop for a drink? as i said it only calculates the time it should take to complete the delivery if all you were doing was walking and delivering
