Lobby of Parliament tomorrow. What would you say to your MP.

Keep it clean.

MP visited a local unit to collect a parcel, was politely chinned by members Rep over his silence and another member shouted over that the REp would be as well asking the parcel.

More constructive suggestions please.

My local MP is on our side publicly, but like all of them he has a small voice in parliament. So I would say to my MP to shout!
We saw the effect when some MP's publicly supported the Keep the Post Public Campaign, we need the same again.

Tamsky, is Ayrshire still Labour or has it gone SNP? When I lived there, it was all Labour bar Ayr/Prestwick area which was Tory.

Ayrshire by in large is still Labour but the Scottish parliament elections saw Kilmarnock & Loudon go Snp and north Ayrshire as well so i expect a similar result for the westminster election ... Prestwick/Ayr swings from labour to tories ....


back to tam's point i believe our Mpis Donahue ... who basically supported the goverment in the privatisation plans and refused to visit our office when we asked him to in regards to mail volumes .... probably tell him the same thing the last time i saw him when he was canvassing for the last westminster election "i wouldn't vote for your lot or the tories if you were the only parties to choose from"

i told my MP exactly what i thought. Even though he is for the postmen, he did try to put up a government point of view. When i responded he stuttered, shrugged his shoulders and said 'your right'. Steve Pound, old skool Labour. What i would say to my MP is STOP the last mile as no other country is doing what they said they would for starters. Or renegociate the price. And ultimately, for once (as they DIDNT do with other nationally owned companies - and look how we are ripped off) put it out to public vote and LET US DECIDE if it should be privatised. Pigs, the lot of them and with Blair running Europe its going to be worse

Thats the trouble with First Past the Post system we have now, its inherently flawed in that whichever party gets the highest number of votes they get the power rather than a party or combination of parties with an absolute majority. This in my opinion has lead directly to the system of allowances that they have and shows how easy it is to get morally corrupted once in power. I know most wont agree with me but I think PR, although it has faults, would make the government more accountable to the public than they are now. Yes smaller parties will get more seats than at present, meaning a BNP MP would be a likelihood, but also parties such as the Greens would gain power, and be able to influence decisions. Another benefit, at least in my opinion, is that the "single issue" parties would have to have a broader range of policies if they really wanted to gain any seats in parliament.

Another benefit is that I think it might counteract voter apathy. The reason most people don't vote is either they see no difference in the 2 main parties, or that they see voting as pointless as it has no effect the Labour Party always win here, or the Conservatives always get in. If we had PR or some version of a transferable voting system people may come to realise that their votes can make a difference. They will always been those that don't vote though.
