you see i dont watch the news lol and at work i pay no attention to anything apart from getting my job done but i heard about possible strikes but nothing confirmed and i actually went abroad and the last thing i wanted was to be informed about royal mail lol, but you see not paying attention has put me in this position so ive learnt my lesson listen to the crap going on at work usually its hearing people sing way out of tune lol

thats what i thought but the lady on the phone and i must be careful here this is what i said

me: "will i be with the union after this phone call

her: "yes"

me:"so i am gonna strike with the rest of the lads, and when i strike royal mail cant f**k about with me can they, they cant take no action against me"

her: "yes they can because you didnt vote and you wouldnt of been able to vote because you werent with the union at that time"

me:"huh? but ive now joined the union can royal mail do me if i dont turn up on that day to work"

her:"yes they can "

me:"so what can i do then, whaT do i do on that day "

her:"go to work"

this was the conversation and she made it clear to me what rights i had, basically ihave no other option but to go to work or royal mail could sack me in that case and i am fuming becasue i wanted to strike but i cant lose my job theres no other jobs anywhere, i thought if i join the union then it will be ok they will back me up, ive jonied anyway and she goes i will get my card in a weeks time and also she gave me branch number etc etc,

could a rep plz get in touch with me ive now joined the union shes sent out my confirmation paper work, i get my card in a weeks time

and the governments website would seem to agree with prestwickpostie

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/ ... /DG_179248" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Industrial action by workers who are not trade union members

If you take part in industrial action when you are not a trade union member you are normally treated as taking part in unofficial action. This means that if you are dismissed while taking part in the action you normally have no right to complain of unfair dismissal.

You can still claim if the reason for your dismissal was automatically unfair.

You are treated as taking part in official action if both:

* members of a trade union are taking part in it
* the action is official industrial action taken by their trade union

This means that the law treats you in the same way as it treats trade union members. Your rights if you are dismissed depend on whether the industrial action is protected or unprotected and when you are dismissed.

things r looking up :) but can i get a rep to confirm this for me plz even if i aint on the piket line i sure as hell wontbe going in if they cant touch me for it.
plz if a union rep could respond plz , i hope u guys get what i am saying that if they can f**k me for it then i have no choice but to go but if they cant do anything then i am on strike and fully support it.

next time if royal mail dont get their act together i am gonna 100 % make sure i get a vote ( i know none of us like to strike but are forced by the unfair treatment we recieve from management and royal mail top dogs).
