25 hour contract and doing absorption

I am on my second week of my part time contract having been brought down from a 35 hour contract. Being honest, the loss of revenue was a worry, but the bonus of getting up at a time that wasn't going to disrupt everyone in the house any more was a boon, add to that no absorption and no D2D's, no more stress was worth the loss, I didn't even appeal in order to gain a stress free life. Today I was asked to take out some of a walk as absorption....... Someone please tell me this isn't meant to be??? If this is the case I really am looking for another job. I think I've previously asked about my 25 hour contract being broken down and it was

30 mins tying up
15 mins to first delivery point
30 mins break
3 hours 30 mins walk
15 mins pouch off

total, 5 hours

Your round is ALWAYS ready for you? Nothing to throw in at all? No Door to Door's? In my office the round is NEVER 100% ready, we must do door2doors and such like.

Take EVERYTHING they want to give you, do your time and bring the rest back, it's really simple!

Im on 25 hours and usually when I go in theres all the previous days undeliverables from my blue pouch plus a small heap of other unsorted but besides that my frame is walk sorted

Still need to do endorsments, redirections and Door to feckin Doors.

Also do, what I gather is pre walk lapsing, something called our 'K bit' which is delivery of mail to about 25-30 addresses somewhere other than normal walk but within walking distance from the DO before we set out on our delivery.

Just do the job properly dont be intimadated by your dom as soon they will change there approach towards by being more forceful with you.

As soon as this happens see your rep but if you do the job as it should be done there wont be enough time just dont start cutting corners and running around due to your dom wanting you to work that way.

If your walks 100% through in of mail ,packets, D2DS your a one off but im guessing its not so that then eats into your time .

As said in a post up top " Its simple " and it is ,just stay strong and if you are not in the union get in it now.

I understand what you are saying, so there are no set duties for any contract, it is just a question of working to time. Regarding D2D's, Ihave heard it said a hundred times they are to be done in RM's time, not your own. My union rep says that PT'ers don't throw off D2D's given the time restrictions (see breakdown)so what happens if they are just left? There must be some sort of standardised template for the various contracts? Every office seems to be an independant unit with different laws governing them, dependant upon the dictator (DOM). The company needs to show some consistency and uniformity regarding the different contracts. Othe than full time contracts (Duty wise) it is a shambles.

Ive just looked in the D2D agreement and theres nothink in it ,that mentions P/TS doing D2D.

i'm on a 24hr contract with 4hr walks and i've been told by my dim i have to do it. so i prep them in works time. it's been light for the past two days but while i'm bagging my own walk and everything that involves i am not flexing [as it's laughingly called at our do] and am finishing just on time. if he isn't grateful and gives me sh1it then as it gets heavier as the week goes on i will be cutting off as well. he wants to start on me then it's banzai baby. different for you who will have to tread lightly for a while, i am not a new starter and don't give two sexual encounters. he aint getting his bonus by breaking my back.

Well said tailfly12. If you go over your time once RM will just pile more and more work on you coz they think you will just roll over and do it. It was alright doin a bit of overtime once but now that seems to have shot ourselves in our own foot, with RM takin the piss piling more and more. I feel that you part timers could bear even more the brunt of this, with RM putting more and more on you coz it saves RM in overtime pay for fulltime staff and save them employing anyone else. Part timers be warned.

Royal Mail has always had that - I was doing a full time walk for 4 years before getting a full time contract, most others are the same. I was on an 18hr contract for 7 years in all.

The D2D agreement refers to 'duties' and 'duty holders'. Back in 1996 when the agreement was last amended it would have been the case that 6-day working and 40 hour duties were the norm i suspect. The agreement is long overdue for negotiation and updating.

So RM have always taken the piss then. It is boards like this that bring the whole of the work force together. We can all see how one another are treated and learn from experienced staff, know when to draw and when to fold, to quote a famous cliche taken from a more famous song. This board must be a real thorn in the side of RM.
