EVERYONE PLEASE READ

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

All members must be aware of the fact that we now have journalists trawling the site and picking and choosing posts that match their agenda. As an example we have been quoted twice in the Daily Telegraph.

Because of this we are asking members not to use expletives in their posts as it will no doubt be ,and indeed has been used, to attack Postal Workers in Media stories.

Also we would ask members to self edit their own posts by this I mean before you press the SUBMIT button just read your message and see how it could be perceived or used out of context to try and weaken our position or affect public opinion of our strikes.

For instance 1 post said:

"Mandelson, that twat he can go f**k himself". - would if not be better to say "Mandelson, I don't trust him at all, he seems very shifty to me he ought not to be in Parliament" --- Both mean the same thing but one is abusive and shows us in a bad light - the other is a formed and polite opinion of a public figure.

We are not asking you not to post your truly held and honest opinions, just to tone down the expletives and present your positions in a concise and friendly manner as possible.

Thanks for reading.

People please don't forget that even though the vote for IA was an absolute majority of CWU members, including those who did not vote, not everyone agrees with our position. Some of these will come on here purporting to be what they are not.

Please do not rise to the bait as that's what they want to happen, and then they will use it show us in a bad light as a bunch of lefty thugs The old adage of "Do Not Feed a Troll" works, so if you see a post you think is blatantly trying to aggravate or antagonise then ignore it and move on. If you reply you are giving them the oxygen of a response and they will continue to post.

Cheers.

I am not a CWU member. I am not a postie, however, I have friends who are.

I wish you luck in your just and reasonable dispute. My fear is that RM have deliberately provoked this dispute to stoke up anti-union hysteria and to introduce their agenda into the workplace without agreement. It all has echoes of the misinformation and ill-will promulgated by sections of the press in the 80s during the Miners Strike.

I truly wish you well in your dispute.

:Very Happy I wish the press would realise the public are not as stupid as they seem to think! They can see the underlying causes for our strike!!! In the past few weeks, most folks I speak to, whilst not looking forward to the incovienience--understand that if one of the biggest Employers in the country can ride roughshod over their staff, making a mockery of contracts etc, it is only a matter of time until THEIR jobs come under the same threat---it's R/M who should carry the shame
for this, not us!

michael j wrote:Hi G O ROOT, you like everyone else is not owed a living, neither are any of you entitled to a job for life. I find it incredible that you think alienating your customers will secure a future for you? TNT are itching to get orange postmen on the street. The best way for them to do that is you lot not working.
Hello Michael. You are right, we are not owed a living. But remember, we feel very strongly about what we are doing, we will lose money too and we don't do this lightly. Four years ago our managers were saying TNT are itching to put posties on the street. They didn't need to then and they don't need to now. The Government has allowed them to hold Royal Mail to ransome, and along with DHL, UK Mail etc etc undercut Royal Mail on price at every major business in this country. Even the government, the very body that owns the Royal Mail, uses a private company. None of these companys deliver letters, but dump it on Royal Mail for us to deliver. That is not fair competition. As you said we are not owed a living, but a bit of respect from a company i have served for most of my working life wouldn't go amiss. You said we are not entitled to a job for life, this is also true. What we are entitled to is the money we have poured into our pension scheme, without Royal Mail and the government trying to dismantle it. It is not our fault RM with the Governments support reneged on their contributions for 13 years , the delightfully titled "pensions holiday". I have every sympathy for your plight and hope things are resolved for you and for us. If your internet business doesn't work out, get a job as a postie and then and only then may you see things from our point of view
