public dont understand

Post by mailman71 »

doing my delivery on saturday one old age pensioner asked me why we were against modernisation and were voting for a strike especially when we were delivering later than we used to.
i told her modernisation would mean that the mail would have to all go through machines then come walk sorted and that would mean that we would be even later and that royal mail were wanting even later deliveries and were talking about 3 pm finishes in the towns and 4 in the rurals with probably later finishes in time.
the old lady was shocked she thought it was us wanting later starts and it was our fault the deliveries were later,the problem seems to be that the tory press as usual are making us out to be all bad when in fact it is poor management that is the problem.

We all no the later starts is because they want to do away with human sorting and replace it with machines. So they can put as much mail through them as they can.

To true they don't. THey don't realise that the bad service, later deliveries, mis deliveries etc are what we are striking to avoid they blame us for the problems not the management.

A customer on my round asked why she was now amongst the last on my round to get their mail.
she was staggered to find that the sequence of the round had not changed but that we leave the office two hours later than we use to.
shes much more sympathetic now :Very Happy but I can only educate one customer at a time.

What most customers think is that with modernisation and walk sequencing we will be able to leave the office earlier and they will get their mail first thing in the morning like the old days. The point that is not been explained is yes we will be able to prepare their mail earlier BUT we will then have to prepare and deliver another round before theirs. Meaning their mail will be delivered even later, degrading the service further.

Once again the CWU need to campaign to get points like this across :evil/mad :evil/mad :evil/mad
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

maybe we should print a few copies of this article off and hand it out to any one who asks...http://thecommune.wordpress.com/2009/10 ... lly-about/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thing is all this modernisation should mean earlier starts and mail delivered at a reasonable time. But Crozier is a vindictive bastard who does not want us finishing early. He doesn t give a toss about what time the mail is delivered as long as we all get pissed off and leave. Once that is done he picks up another whacking bonus and brings in 0 hour contracts. This is a joke. The earlier poster is right. A one page advert in the national press explaining that its not us thats making mail later, bags heavier therefore a slower unproductive
workforce its the w*****s at the top, who have turned this service into a shameful shadow of its former great self. :cfo

Billy Hayes sitting there during interviews saying 'we're not against modernisation, but you can't just introduce it by diktat' isn't helping one bit. All that sounds like is that posties don't want to be told what to do.

WHERE'S THE DETAILS BILLY?

No, don't say that 6 times - tell the interviewers what's actually happening.

Does he even know?

They already do this !
You guys wouldn't believe what they put through the machines or the amount of rejects taken to the manual sorting :chuckle . We are talking mostly DSA , WALKSORTED mail , those stupid glossy cards and envelopes , dark coloured items, and most plastic wrapped mail ! Oh , I forgot the catalogues :d'oh! .
These rejects are taken to the manual sorting far too late to be sorted in time for despatches so the manual areas strongly resemble sardine cans. :left:
And they call this "MODERNISATION" :crazy: (why isn't there a rolling around the floor laughing smiley ?). :wink:

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well said. What's the point of having a 4 million pound flat sorting machine (T2K) when they put through postcards and letters the size of playing cards? The barcode sticker the machine applies to each piece covers half the address on anything small meaning manual sorters have to spend time peeling them off to find out where it's going. Counterproductive or what???
