Hi everyone, now before I begin, I just want to make one thing clear, I VOTED YES!

The company is being run into the ground, and something really needs to be done, I do however have some doubts about the strikes.

You see, I have been monitoring the BBC have your say forum, and it would appear that we have very little if any public support, and I think we can safely attribute this to very biased media reporting, making us all out to be greedy, and only after more money.

I have encountered people on my route, who have asked me about this, and have been quite reasonable once I explain to them what the strikes are really about, they then suddenly become very supportive, I am sure you can see the problem we have here.

Now, the media might have given us a bad name, but let’s think about this for a moment, TV shows might be seen by a lot of people, but everybody has a letter box!

What we need, is a letter, something to explain our side of the story, perhaps that letter that was mentioned here a while back (http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... =1&t=19555" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) would be good, or perhaps as a forum, we could create something together? We could print them off, and deliver them as door to doors? This is just an idea.

Until then, I think that perhaps it would be worth delaying the strike action, until we get more public support, but we won’t give them an easy ride though.

I know that work to rule is not going to be entirely practical, but we could make things difficult for them, for instance, we should all refuse to do any lapsing, perhaps have an overtime ban, and so on.

Another problem we have at my depot is that the registered locker is usually locked until sometimes as late as 10:30, making everyone wait around for up to an hour when we are all ready to go; perhaps we should all decide that if it is not open for say, 9:30, we should all just leave the specials behind?

I will definitely support strike action when it happens, this is only a suggestion that I am putting out there.

No dont leave specials behind if your reg cage is locked, just inform the managers that you might have to cut off due to it making you start late, once you cut off you will be suprised to see the reg getting to you earlier. And as for posting the door to doors to everyone, that would have to come officially from the union, if anyone done it you could face the sack. Did you read the paper about the bloke that posted a door to door to everyone on his round telling them how to get door to doors stopped. He got sacked.

Just be carfull dont panic about things just work your hours the way they want you to, if they get your specials to you late then cut off and tell them thats why.

I DONT SEE A PROBLEM. D2D RATES ARE DIRT CHEAP POSTMAN MIGHT EVEN QUE UP TO DELIVER THESE.

D2Ds are out then, so it's got to be a page in the national press. That would be a lot cheaper thanD2D, wouldn't it? The publicity people at the CWU would know this but the probem is they don't answer the phone and you get invited to leave a message which they won't reply to. Been there etc.

Do not believe everything you read in the newspapers----more of the public are on our side than the powers that be think-----anyway-as you say,we each have an opportunity to explain things to our customers when they ask about this action---and most of mine agree something needs to be done.

The whole media campain has been mostly against us and you have to admit very well executed. We have been portrayed as a bunch of lazy, non caring thief’s who only want to work three hours a day and get paid for eight. The CWU has been way too quite in not presenting our case explaining we are only trying to preserve the fine public service which we already offer.

On other non RM chat rooms we have been compared to British Leyland of the 70’s era, saying we are a money pit and a drain on government funds. Lots of folks are very quick agree with this

forgetting (or not knowing) the fact we made a bloody big 321 M profit in all 4 sectors of our business.

The CWU need to get their act together and fight back with a national campaign.

i dont understand why your locker is closed and you cant get your specials, that is your phgs job to give your specials and remember they really are just postmen and women as well and probably in the union so why is he or she making your jod difficult ?

you know what. i'm sure some of those posting on here are so full of wind it's a wonder they don't blow away. we'll be on our 16th days strike on the 14th we've been doning the job right for month's now the office is full of work we've lost 3 week's worth of money and then someone say's oh why don't we call the strikes off till after xmas. do it but don't expect us to support you or the strike once we go back.
