Nought hour contracts.

We are currently in negotiations regarding 0 hour contracts,as an office we are completely against this,but management are hellbent
on implementation.
My question would be if these contracts were bought into your office, how would you approach the people carrying out these duties?
Would you be willing to help them, or would you refuse to have anything to do with them?
To be honest i know they are only trying to earn some cash like the rest of us,but i would be loath to go out of my way to help.

What is the f***ing government of the day doing allowing a public institution like this erode workers rights in this way?

In effect thay are allowing a company that they are the majority shareholder in side step their own employee rights laws.

diificult one to call because it really is management that the blame be directed at.however are they being used to the detriment of people on rehab duties ,people waiting to go back to work because they are saying insufficent indoor work but these people can be used for delivery?

Is it not the case that these contracts of employment were called into question at an industrial tribunal and found untenable? I am sure Postman or one of the other Mods can point you to the topic that covered these 1-hour contract type arrangements.

Royal Mail have told the press that they are stopping 0 and 1 hr contracts.

I'm sure I've read posts on here about someone with a one hour contract who complained and won FT holiday entitlement, backdated too, are they not illegal contracts?

royal mail are now paying these 0/1 hours the holidays what they are due, they work out entitlements based on the previous 13 weeks hours of attendance. so i dont think it matters what hrs they call these contracts they are just a minimum of what the employee will get a week. I was a 1hr who got my last years holidays paid and extra leave this year. i believe others are just being told they have extra time off this year and receive no actual cash, in fact 1 fellow staff member has been on a 1 hr contract for 3-4 yrs and has been told he now has got 14 weeks leave to take, not even the offer of any renumeration. I assume when these staff are off then absorbing their rounds will happen and the doms budget (bonus) stays as it was!

lowest contract here are 6 hour saturdays
several duties are mon-fri with saturdays covered by 6 hour contracts...........just deliveries so we short on IPS

If you're on a 0 hour contract, can you turn up for work on Monday morning, say to the manager "that's me fulfilled my contract" and go home immediately?

would agree, also your attendance rate would be 100%.

given that your contractual obligations are fulfilled just by breathing and being under 65 would anything beyond your hours require you to volunteer via your local offices agreed proceedure.
If your contractual obligations are fulfilled by just being, then would it be possible to dismiss you, if every time they called you said no thanks i'm done for the week
