What strike action would be most effective?
Taking into consideration the size of the UK, the number of employees, the big cities and small villages, the strike breakers and the loss of cash striking results in.
What do you personally think would be the most effective way of making our voice heard.
I personally think 24 hour strikes work but are not most effective. We end up with clearing the backlog one way or the other and lose cash.
I would like to see all 'good will' removed and a strict national 'work to rule' in place. I think this would have a bigger impact than any all out strike. I know not everyone would join in but if the majority did then maybe the minority would see the light? We would all get paid and still be causing havoc. Day in, day out we could do this until Royal Mail take notice. An all out strike is really only effective on the days it happens. Whereas work to rule would be every day. Perhaps I am way off the mark?
Would really love to see a 'work to rule' and an all out national strike every 2 weeks or 10 days! Minimum money lost and maximum disruption. Would love to see the strike breakers and managers coping with this!
Royal Mail really do not realise the goodwill that most of us posties give each day. Or maybe they do but just don't appreciate it. It's about time this goodwill was removed to show them that we keep the wheels turning on this wagon and not the guys in the shirts and ties!
Anyways, views please troops.

Agree with Barry (from EastEnders). Seems silly to go all out for a day then clear it the next day so a worktorule throughout the dispute would be highly effective. Plus OT ban ofcourse.

Thank you :)
But it must be stressed to all strikers that they MUST follow up such action with a 'work to rule' and 'complete overtime ban'.

Re: What strike action would be most effective?
a continuous work to rule as well as one day strikes would cause havoc. without goodwill rm would cease to function.
edit
this should be enforced at once and not stopped until we have got the result we want. no suspension of action or any concessions only to get reamed later. got to show we mean business and we're in this to the end

Re: What strike action would be most effective?
thank god people are starting to speak sense, it really is a complete farce sometimes when we have strike action and people clear it all up within a day by not working to rule.BarryFromEastenders wrote:Thank you :)

Has anyone on here been working at one of the offices that we are hearing about that have been working to rule 100%, from what i hear there managers are tearing there hair out and ready to walk.
Working to rule is a form of industrial action so therefore has already been agreed by us all under the ballot so surely this is the 1st step on the rung, every office 100% work to rule for the 1st week of action,
then progress it to rolling operational strikes like last time for 24hrs,
then 48 hours
then 72 hours
you get where i am going.

Re: What strike action would be most effective?
work to rule full stop must be the first action taken.
no need to strike for one day,and then having posties working over next day
it defeats the point and management know this.

Re: What strike action would be most effective?
I totally agree with above BUT if my office is anything to go by it will be hard to achieve. A lot of people are greedy self interest numpties who come in early, use their cars, run round and work all the o/t going. If they did work to rule our office would be f#cked in days.

Re: What strike action would be most effective?
Look we have balloted for strike action , if you want to work to rule or do an overtime ban then we would have to be balloted again with those questions.
Strike action can be effective we have proved that by the local disputes and the backlog which has built up. The most effective dispute is rolling strike action starting with network , then mail centres and then deliveries which means that we cause chaos across the week but cost our members just one days pay.
With regards to work to rules they dont work if they did then we would have all been doing the job properly as we have had enough campaigns already on it.

Re: What strike action would be most effective?
Agree that the way forward in this dispute is surely to instigate a work to rule alongside one a two day strikes.
The danger then for Royal Mail is that people will get used to working within the Royal Mail delivery framework and stick to it.

Re: What strike action would be most effective?
we got balloted for industrial action including strike action.
A 100% everyone work to rule is a form of industrial action.
And it is true we should've been doing it from the start but there are too many that simply wont do it, claiming they have childcare issues, or places to be, now i have sympathy for these people but as we have been told this is not job and knock anymore. It is no longer a choice to rush round to get home an hour early, by doing that you are just opening up for extra work which is what is now happening with etc.
If we start at work to rule and then strike action it also shows that we are not strike hungry, lazy bastards which we are being portrayed as.
If the job doesnt work how they say they want us to work then it shows what a bunch of idiots we are working for.
Dont get me wrong i have no fear of striking i have been there done it, but this is different to before we have alot of convincing to do, not just the public but the people right at the top and even are own members

wrong!! we were balloted for industrial actions. There are many forms of industrial action without having to go on strike. Everyone working to rule is a form of industrial action.

Re: What strike action would be most effective?
I think the biggest danger is the assumption that RM will be compliant with the CWUs route of industrial action. Suppose a strike is called for one day, what is to say they will let you back in the next day? If they do let you in the next day, it might only be on the proviso that you will work to management direction or you won't be coming back at all.
