Listen! Forget about striking. Everybody is going to lose out from this strike. The Postmen, Royal Mail, the customers. The only one who is not going to lose is Crozier, and he doesn't give a damn if the company falls into oblivion. We need to get the message across to the government that we want to privatize the company-----Yes I know what you are thinking-----But I mean privatize it for everybodies benefit------so that the postmen and women get a good allocation of shares-----the public can buy shares (Maybe 100 shares maximum per customer)-----even the CWU could buy shares. The reason I am saying this is because when the tories get in next year, they will privatize us anyway. The difference is that if the tories get their hands on it, they will keep all the bacon for themselves, and the Postmen will be working themselves into an early grave and end up with nothing.Think about it.

Some members need to read the rules they agreed to when they joined RMC.

Please remember everyone is welcome on this site. Customers, CWU Officers, Royal Mail Managers, all Royal Mail employees, the General Public, the press,and even MPs, so please do not resort to abuse if people of a different political persuasion or viewpoint to you, post on a thread.

If someone has a different position to you please respect their right to have differing views, and enjoy yourself when picking holes in their position in a constructive way. We would much rather have a long winded well thought out argument, picking out weak points in someone's position, than have a thread full of 1 line insults.

Just because someone has a different viewpoint or political position to you, it does not mean that they are a 'Manager' or a 'Union fanatic', any posts making such assumptions or generalisations will be pulled or amended and the poster warned. This also applies to posts that are not aimed at individuals but at groups.

I had to remove 2 posts that were blatant insults and 5 that accused people of being Managers because they said something we did not agree with.

Be adults and debate please we are getting hit by the standard lazy, work shy, inefficient, anti management press stories that always come out when we strike and posts like the ones I deleted only add to the poor view some journos and the public have of us.

no-one is striking just because we want the day off. we've been pushed and pushed untill we have no other option but to say enough is enough. even a blind man on a galloping horse can see the out come if we don't stand our ground.

If we strike we may win something out of this mess, if we don't we get more of the same. I am not prepared to spend the rest of my days in RM being bullied and hounded by managers. I don't think there can be many offices where you have not now seen our beloved management in their true colours and it is not a pretty sight. Threats and intimidation, people on the conduct code, pay stopped. They will be shooting cowards and deserters next. Is this the future you really want ?

No I do not think that privatisation is the right answer. If you look at other service industries which have been privatised it has always resulted in massive job losses followed by huge price hikes for sevices. What would be the chances of Royal mail being able to keep to the universal service agreement when it was controlled by shareholders hungry for profit at any cost.

What is NEEDED however is an even playing field with fair competition from the likes of TNT and Business Post. Without the EU downstream access agreement these companies would not be able to return huge profits earned from the sweat on our backs.

It is simple, privatisation will see the end of the USO. Now if thats what people want, then fair enough, but do they?
For a time, our jobs would probably get easier because it would be easy to deliver a profit for RM if we only delivered 3 times a week say. Of course there would be massive job losses to accomodate this.

Like you say, privatisation is going to happen, sooner or later. I'd probably prefer later.

A buyer would need that deficit gone and with the country in debt to the tune of some £90 billion, i just don t see any government paying that sort of money out while asking for pay freezes and cuts.

If we're privatised then the pension would be taken over by the government, just so the could get their hands on the £25billion or so that is in it
