Managers Spanish Practices?
Found out yesterday that a guy in our office (p/t 0730-1400) is getting paid for coming in early. This guy comes in at 0500 and spends the whole of his time in the office boxing in his own walk and doesn't go near the IPS. He is also allowed to lave before the missorts arrive and leave them for delivery the next day.He is home in his house between 1030 and 1130 every day , depending on the heaviness of the mail. He is supposed to share a van but uses his own car and leaves the van for the other postie to use as he sees fit. We have a fair number of numbskulls in our office who choose to come in early and run round to make a bit of time and when they found out that one of their number was gettin over an hour a day on the docket they were furious! They all trooped into the DIM's office at different times this morning to vent their spleen to him about this unfortunate turn of events and were informed by him that its because he does some packetsfor him.................This sounds reasonable enough until i tell you that the packets he delivers are actually for his own round! Now , as much as i enjoyed listening to these cretins bleating and crying about all this , my question is this.............Is there anything that can be done to get the DIM into trouble about this? We do not have a union rep (last one was sacked and no-one in an office of 36 is willing to take it on) but the guy who i usually go to with any union queries would only say that hopefully this will bring a few more into the "DO THE JOB PROPERLY" fold. (in between wiping the tears of laughter from his eyes!)

Re: Managers Spanish Practices?
send a detailed anonymous letter to your areas manager.
if nothing gets done then send one higher.
probably best to get the union involved.
not sure if this a is a case of whistle blowing which you have protection from.
ask the union

The only point I would make is that unless the DIM DOM has good reason to allow for non-delivery of mis-sorts it could be seen as wilful delay by him. As to the part-timer coming in early (assuming he completes his hours for the day/week) that can be at the DIM DOMs discretion if it falls under the family-friendly policy. It would certain seem fair to get your Area rep to investigate to ensure that proper practice is being followed and not favouritism to one individual because he happens to be DIM DOM's golden boy.

He's not on any family friendly hours (retired ex-policeman) He does play a lot of golf and i know the DIM does as well although i don't know if they play with each other!Ahebban wrote:The only point I would make is that unless the DIM DOM has good reason to allow for non-delivery of mis-sorts it could be seen as wilful delay by him. We wanted to but the area rep came down and told us that there was nothing that could be done (he was sacked for his attendance) There were a few of us who wanted to walk unofficialy but out of an office of 30+ i don't think 4 of us would have got him re-instated. Been out with him a few times since and he reckons getting out of the hellhole was the best thing that ever happened to him so i suppose it all worked out in the end.NWpostie wrote:Did you have a strike or a walkout over the Sacked rep ? RM's insurance doesn't cover delivering packets in private cars, nor would a standard business policy.
Other than that there's probably not a lot you can do, we have a couple of staff that don't go on on IPS, just prep their own walk and leave early - I know at least one of them has been off with stress though so in that case RM are actually being considerate.

Re: Managers Spanish Practices?
In that case I see no reason why you should not refer the matter further up the managerial chain to have the matter investigated properly. Almost certainly the DIM DOM involved will just receive a slap on the wrist and no more would be said, but you do get the satisfaction of seeing DIM/DOM back-off in the short term.

If you're up for it get a load of you to simply start doing what this guy is being allowed to do. Tie up and walk out when he does. You're excuse is that you are being discriminated against if you are not allowed to work the same way this other guy is. You can't be treated less favourably than others in the same job as that's discrimination and actually illegal. That will either put an end to it, or you will be diciplined and will win any case against you.

Re: Managers Spanish Practices?
all the part timers in my office are now being paid up to work full time hours, does make a mockery of them wanting to employ part timers in the first place. But as we got told all the managers further up the chain is interested in is the majority of work being completed and the budget being adhered to, they wont care about how the staff are being used, paid etc

Don't do it, it was a stitch up last time and we don't need people seeing you going home early. It's amazing how DOMS will ignore all the rules just to try and g/tee they get their bonus next year, lazy, no good supervisorssteviemac wrote:our Dom has offered job and knock if we do lapsing for a few days a week ............ no fear .... getting in on time and taking break negates any spare capacity , time was only gained due to starting early and working lunch break .piranha wrote:Don't do it, it was a stitch up last time and we don't need people seeing you going home early. Hj4k, if you're not happy with the union arrangements become the Office Rep yourself!
I am allowed to leave before the missorts, and any for my duty are supposed to be dealt with by the management.
They are always still there for the next day! Nothing has been said by any visiting higher management!

Re: Managers Spanish Practices?
A few of us have spoke about this and would love to try it out , unfortunately there's no way on gods green earth that we could possibly manage to be ready on time as we start at our proper times and are lucky if we've done our redirections before the missorts arrive.opgpat wrote:If you're up for it get a load of you to simply start doing what this guy is being allowed to do.
