Ha Ha, that'll be fun if they do end cars on delivery. My office will grind to a halt, as they've got rid of several van duties, hardly any pouch boxes, etc, etc, bring it on!

Can't see this happening, most probably will come with the "mountain of change" which will come in january 2010.

The end of cars on delivery will happened only when Royal Mail"s 140 million investment into car derived vans is fully rolled out. All walks except those closest to the office will be paired as a car derived van duty.

I agree - RM have only recently extended their insurance to cover mail to be kept in private cars on delivery. Simple fact is it benefits them so there's no way they will stop it unless they have good reason to.

no mail is ment to b kept in your car except for your first bag. then your car is to be left at your starting point not driven around street by street like many do...u aint insured for that...........simple.

Sorry mate that's wrong, we had the document check etc a few weeks ago and got a pack with all the insurance information in - RM's insurance has now been extended to cover storing mail in private cars and also to move your car along the delivery route whilst carrying mail.

What isn't covered is delivering packets from the car or dropping bags off for anyone else if it's not on your normal route.

Regardless of that anyone using their own car should have business insurance anyway, unless you only want RM's third party cover (crash your car and get nothing!)

thanks for that..any chance of seeing this document as i do a reps position .i have all the up to date documents and that aint one of them.i find it hard to believe that any insurance firm would insure anyone any car any town to drive street 2 street with thousands of pieces of mail in them...how do they pay out for stolen mail .how would they calculate it...find it very hard to believe mate..but please try and put up the paper work that you were given..

They will eventually stop cars being used, mark my words, its already been done in my area for the past few years. 1 bloke got dismissed 2 years ago for using his car, he had 20 years service.

Interesting, quite unusual for RM in that Office to ban cars unilaterally, whats the reason for that ? quite shocked about the 20 year service chap being dismissed, has he been given a warning before the dismissal option ?
