Think I read about 20,000 workers will scab (someone in the media even called those 20,000 workers 'heroes'!) That's 20,000 Union fees the Union has to have the balls to be willing to lose.

Does the Union really have these balls??

The ballot was a democractic one, the majority of those balloted have come to a majority decision. It is the duty of members to put personal considerations aside and work for the greater good of the CWU and abide by the decision of the membership ... Simples

Any CWU member crossing our picket line will be put forward for expulsion under whichever rule(s) apply in such matters.

100% agree! I have no issues with how anyone voted. As you have stated it was a democratic vote and we can all vote on how we see fit. Now that the majority has spoken though, REGARDLESS of how you voted the majority wins. Simples as you said. I totally 100% agree with members who don't support the majority be put forward for expulsion.

Plenty of us voted against the deal in 2007. What would Royal Mail have done if we had all decided not to return to work just because the result of the vote went against those of us who could see what was coming? I'll bet we would have all been sacked.

Unfortunately it is against current union legislation to expel strike breakers, but I will be asking anyone in my office to resign from the union if they cross the picket line. And we have a few who are considering it.

Thirty years ago the Union were entitled to kick strike breakers out, but Thatcher`s anti-Trade Union laws of the eighties put an end to that. Thatcher wanted as many strike breakers as possible in the unions to dilute their power.

Sadly it is not legal to expel n indivdual from the union. But i think the way some branch"s are dealing with people who choose to work is that they do not get reprsented when they fall foul of Royal Mail procedures. In London we have seen a number of cases where indivduals who choose to work now face dismissal interviews and guess what they cant find anyone who will reprsent them , some have even been dismissed.

Oh if they want to contiue to fund the union when we wont help them who are the real mugs.. In todays Royal Mail you need a union to help you. Some who have not been attacked as yet may not see that but they will and then they will understand how important it is to be in the union.
