harassed while off sick

Hi comrades just wanted your views on this one.I went sick this morning,im in a rural office so i let them know then spoke to the manager later.he basically said i was lying about being sick(said it was convenient as im on leave next week)he said i do this all the time when im due on leave,iasked him to name one occasion,he couldnt.i rang him after i had been to the doctors,i have been asked back to the doctors tomorrow and he wants me to ring him as soon as ive been,i bet he will want ringing friday aswell if im off.his manner was quite aggresive on the phone and has me feel guilty and worried about what he will do.I feel he is trying to force me back to work this week and im thinking of putting a grievance in.I feel i cant leave the house in case he sees me.heelllppp

a grievance is the route,impress in your grievance statement how his manner made you feel,and the unwanted attention you recieved was intrusive offensive and was a form of bullying and intimidation

Tell this man you will have him on bullying and harrasment charges. This is the only thing that works with these people.Like all bullies everywhere, hw will back down. and, no you shouldn't have to go through this. Best of luck.

take docs advice,if its sick leave inform dom,asap,your doc is medically trained dum aint.

I am sure it says inj the royal mail guide for managers that all sick must be traeted as genuine.

Let him know what the doctor said, hand your line in if you get one and then tell him you will inform him nearer the time when you will be coming back. I got one letter and two specials when I was off and ignored the lot until I was ready to go back then I phoned him.

I think I may be shot down because of what I am about to say but in every Job I have done, including the Forces, we had to make daily contact with our immediate superiors, bosses to update them. In fact in the forces you could not go sick unless you got into Uniform and attended a Sick Parade.

However, where I think it could become bullying and harassment is if they continued to contact you even though you had already done so that day, or the approach/response to calling in sick was OTT and uncalled for. I suppose its a judgement call on each case.

keep record of all phone calls ,line in no reason to call you,you call him /her when ready to come back.
strictly done to keep staffing and budget on target get well get rested.

Play a little message when you call him or he calls you. MESSAGE= calls maybe recorded. Bet his attitude would change.

When i'm off sick I just phone the office each night and leave a message on the answer machine. You've made daily contact then, without any hassle.

It is nice too feel how valued we are within management circles!. I only hope the frigging tw@t gets run over by a bus and has his gaffa says the same to him as he has done unto you!.
