Apologise if this has been asked before but I haven't read the entire site. This statistic that RM keep trotting out.
I haven't heard the CWU ever formally challenging it. I've heard them saying it's a load of rubbish, yes, but I haven't heard anyone actually challenging RM to say where it came from.
I know, probably Croziers fetid brain. But it would carry more weight if we said "put up or shut up". Produce the independent study that came up with this finding or admit that it's a fiction.

Of course, it is entirely possible that this has been done but not been publicised. Or it has but I've missed it. I'm sure someone will put me right if that is so.

This was attributed to Crozier. Because our non unionised competitors pay their staff 25% less than us (or just over the minimum wage for those who can't work it out) the 25% under worked, I suppose Crozier was comparing his job to ours.
Take my advice and reverse it and you'll be nearer to the truth.

I think it was due to us being payed about 25% more than average unskilled labour and because of job-and-knock. Most people can do 8 hours work in 7 hours if they get to go home when they are done.

The problem is that 50% of Royal Mail starters quit because the job isn't as easy as it looks and if you are given 9 hours work to do in 8 hours then what is the point in rushing? You may aswell take your time and cut off with 2 hours left to do.

Funny really, moral is well known to save lives in the armed forces when people face death and yet Royal Mail seem to have totally ignored it in their calculations when we face 'cutting-off'. Call it lazy or poor moral, they both have the same symptoms.

But lets remember the job isn't unskilled - that's why there is an interview with aptitude tests to be done. It takes probablly 3months to get up to speed with regular workers in all aspects of the job. You need to be a trustworthy person with no criminal past, have numercy and literacy skills, good memory, customer skills/interpersonell skills, self-motivation, ability to operate various pieces of equipment like PDA's etc etc. It's not like washing dishes or cleaning floors. That's not to say cleaners should be paid the pittance that they are paid.

You think wrong according to official statistics. ONS figures reckon that we get paid £80 a week less than the national average for commensurate employment.Thats about 25% underpaid according to the government lap dogs

I still think that a postman is an unskilled job and that we get above average for what some consider a similar job.

e.g. Working the tills in Sainsbury's requires an interview, time to get up to speed with regular workers in all aspects of the job. You need to be a trustworthy person, have numercy and literacy skills, customer skills/interpersonell skills, ability to operate various pieces of equipment like.

As far as I'm aware, skilled labour requires a qualification, postman does not.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think we are over payed but £18k per year ... Doh, after looking up median wages I came across statistics I didn't expect. I expected us to be payed roughly what most people are payed it the country (not average, that is totally different) but it seems we are about 25% below 'normal'. (Source)

All points duly noted. And they rather confirm my OP.
As this is an assumption by Crozier and has not been produced by industrial engineers or efficiency experts, it should be exposed as a piece of fiction by union leaders.
