Grace break

In our office the dom has decided in his own wisdom to stop grace breaks. I understand that they dont have to give you a grace break but it has always been a good working practise by R/M to allow you a 10 minute relief before you go out on delivery to grab a brew or have a snack. What they are now telling people is that they may have a grace break but the 10 minutes comes off there 40 minute break which ive now started to argue the toss as this should not be the case. The other bizarre thing is that they are telling people you can have a brew and snack at your fitting ( I thought this wasnt allowed at your fitting ) . Has this been done in your office i find it hard to believe we are the only office that this is happening in.

We had our grace break removed years ago with the introduction of SDD.You can still have a break for a fag though.

Thats what so laughable about the whole situ That they will allow you time for a fag although this should not be the case especially on R/M property but wont allow to refuel your body for the slog head. What about all of the none smokers best thing to do now is take up smoking cant you still buy those fake fags from the joke shop might go and get myself 20 of those.

If the smokers need a break , tell them you're a drinker and go off for a can of special brew when they go for a fag.

In our office we're allowed to have a grace break pretty much anytime,still have people having smoke breaks as well.Luckily our management are'nt as bad as a lot of offices i read about on this forum.Obviously people abuse this,thats a risk you take.But as its such a basic human function it should be allowed,and as for taking it off your 40 mins,get the local HS onto this.Get in touch with the local council HS,or local rag,i'm sure the public would love to hear about this.I know the main reason they dont complain in my office is the fact the local HS officer checked out the deliveries and found most did not have toilet's so they came to an agreement that we could use the toilets when required.

you should take your full 40 mins meal relief anyway shouldnt you? saying that in our office of 150+ about 1o of us have a regular mr everyday but it does throw a spanner in the works

The union would like you to have your 40 mins relief before going out on delivery, but as far as im aware they havnt pushed for this to be the norm. In our office we have many a posty most probs 95%+ who dont have a toilet located on there walks like the mjority of walks across R/M .

We all know this shouldnt be the case but we dont live in a perfect world. So people in my office put the 40 mins on at the end which in turn gives you less time on your walk in theory .

We can take a break before we go out, eat/drink at our own frames and at the IPS frames - basically do what we want as long as the job gets done.

Same hear, gaffer doesnt mind if the grafts done.

Did get stopped a few years back when yours truly spilled a whole cup of coffee on the primary during sorting, gaffer went nuts and banned it.

But slowly it has creeped back in, and he's long gone now anyway.

My understanding of the Grace break is that it is up to the manager's discretion whether or not to allow it. In other words, if a 10 minute break will not impact on the delivery operation (eg result in overtime or cutting off) then there should be no reason why the DOM should refuse it. Maybe some offices have done away with this in local agreements (which is a bit stoopid!) but as far as I know it's a national thing. Correct me if I'm wrong...
