National strike.....will you deliver....

is what i'll be asking the union, come next week. What does everyone else think on here? Can the union deliver all the things it says it wants such as 35 hour week, agreed full time / part time ratio, with A/G progressing to full time, end to harassment, fair work loads. ect.. After being let down so badly in 2007, morale could be at an all time low if we don't get a good deal this time. I'd love all the things that have been mentioned, but no one in my office seems to think we'll get them. any thoughts? have we got a hope in hell of getting them? hope so!

The pay element is an important one and the union know this.
I'm the same as everyone else on here regarding the workloads, changing of duties and hours etc,
but we have to remember that it was only a couple of months ago that Royal Mail were trying to talk down our job spec and telling anyone who would listen that we are, if I can remember right 20 or 25% overpaid!
I also believe that a reduction in the working week is on the cards as it is well overdue and has been spoken about in the last few pay negotiation talks.
But for the main reasons we're all taking IA is about the executive action taken by the Management to steam roller their new ways of working through, I just hope that we don't lose sight of the ball and fall for the old bribery route that has seen our brothers and sisters sell us out (for a few pounds and a lump sum) in the votes of previous years!

agree, a lump sum is not worth the years of bullying and harrasment that will follow, we must have a watertight national agreement this time. with no mention of local agreements in my opinion. we all work for the same company, why should we allow Royal mail to devide and conquer, which is why they allways bribe us with local agreements and promises of local bonuses for savings.....we had our bonus....96p per week....that was worth being flexible for then.....

from what i can tell most of the problem's we now face are because the union didn't stop to read the small print on the agement's it's signed off on in the past. just about eveyone in my office is pissed of with the union now.

an yet when the 2007 pay and moderisation agreement was 1st proposed they said they were going thru all the small print and spent quite a while supposidly going thru it bet they got red faces now

Why is the pay element such an important one?
Personally. I'm far more concerned with the other issues. I'd rather get them sorted out, and make do with a pay freeze. Than get a pay rise, and get shafted, like we were 2 years ago.

Obviously, it'd be nice to get a pay rise. Particularly if we have to make compromises on other issues. But are you really saying that you consider it to be as important, or even more important than fighting the attacks on the service, and our working conditions?

Yep I agree I can't ever remember the kind of rants we're now getting in WTL or on the shop floor, Its obviouse management know whats at stake here.
I think we hold all the cards here but then I thought the same in 2007 and the union struck a deal at the first hurdle (yeah I'm sure there was more to it than that ) but we really need to get this right this time besides the threat to our union some of us are getting pretty depressed with the job and with out the union that'll only get worse.
So I for one hope that Billy and Dave really know whats at stake here.

A pay rise is not really the issue here and telling our customers that is only confusing the real issue.
