3 reps??

I know you get the rep and his sub,but can you have a 3rd for when neither is in.
And can it be official,i'm sick and tired of my mangers telling me 'you're not a rep'!
It's a smallish office size 40-50 or does it not matter anyway.

IR Rep and Deputy = 2
Plus H&S Rep and Deputy = 4

and now they are looking at Learning reps and Green Reps

I wish the powers that be would hurry up with green reps, it not as if its going through Dave Wards department , it's Dave Joyce in the Health Safety and Enviroment department and I presume Annual Conference would give the final agreement for the CWU to have them/who will be responsible for bringing them into the structure of the CWU.

Once we have that Dave Joyce's department will need to negoatiate with the employers RM Group, BT Group, Virgin media and quite a few others as well.

Then there is the matter of legal rights as per Safety reps.

Yes you can have a 3rd rep he would be seen as the reserve rep and his role is only when you or your asst rep are not present in the office . I think what you have to do is put pen to paper giving his details and post it off to your branch.

Perhaps we could invent a union position for everybody in the office, then no-one would ever have to go out on deliveries in all sorts of weather and do some proper work. Although it might mean the union has to increase the weekly CWU subs to such a level that our payslips will read

Wish people wouldn't generalise I am a rep and have a delivery plus my rep duties and I know I am not alone, yes there are reps on full time release and they probably need to because of the size of their office.

All the info is on the cwu web site im sure thats were i found out about it . When me and my opo were both way we had a subtitute rep we informed our branch and informed management. I will see if i can find it anyway if i cant ring your branch.

I do rep duties if neither reps are in, it's unofficial and I'm only there to take notes and make sure procedures are followed but there has never been a problem about it.

Well the the department headed up by Dave Joyce is called Health,Safety and Enviroment department and has been for some time so it should not come as any great surprise that the CWU is interested in bringing green/enviroment reps into its structure!

What has deliveries got to do with this anyway? The last time I looked we organise not just at rank and file level in the entire Royal Mail Group but across the communcations sector and even into the financial arena.

Before anybody gets their knickers in a twist about cost, the TU movement including the CWU want green reps to have the same legal rights to release as H&S reps, in plain english the Employer pays the wages.

And lets not make any assumptions about how much release a Enviroment/green rep will want/need.
