Im a trialist at a small DO, started just over a month ago - have made a good few mistakes since being put out on my own ( mainly through nerves and overload of information ) and I know they will be losing patience with me. Yesterday I was feeling very iffy and today ( bank holiday ) i've hardly been able to walk through sheer lack of energy. Splitting sore head, blocked nose, sore throat, bad cough and sneezing every 5 mins. Ive not called in sick before and know if I do tomorrow ( I struggle with the weight/stairs of the flats as it is and come home shattered so God knows what i'd be like tomorrow ) they will possibly think im pulling their leg and being a trialist I have reason to believe they could 'let me go' no questions asked? I feel terrible just now but I'd be hopin to be in on Wed ( day off is Thursday ) - am I in my right to remain at home? Whats my chances?
EDIT - forgot to mention, part time and joined the unofficial industrial action picket line ( three days ) last week ( DOM told me my decision wudnt be put against me and my employment wouldnt be affected shud I strike - probably was though )

Sick rules apply to everyone. I dont think it matters if your a trialist.
If you cant work you cant work. just make sure you keep them informed and they should be ok.

Re: Trialist Phoning In Sick
The only difference between being a trialist and perm is that the trigger is 7 days or 2 absences for a stage 1 instead of the usual 4 and 14 days.
However when I was off 8 days as a triallist after twisting my ankle - my trial was extended until after the stage had lapsed. Before anyone says it was an AOD etc, this happened before I became active in the Union and the stage wont affect me any more. However they way they treated me is the reason why I am so active.

It sounds like you have a virus with those symptoms.
Do you have swine flu?
It maybe an idea to phone the hotline, sorry dont know the number
I think with swine flu its two weeks off work with no questions asked.

Re: Trialist Phoning In Sick
Forget that idea re: swine flu = 2 weeks. It's to be treated like any other absence and we got that from a reps meeting with our DSM at the last quarterly meeting we had. Can you imagine for a minute it being true? BT would be in meltdownkrussel wrote:Trialist on sick:
