Grievance advice

Post by wingmanchillian »

Hi,

Any advice on how i can get my grievance heard would be appreciated.

so far I've put in 3 1st stage grievances. two of them were asking about my original grievance and why they hadn't been heard. that took 14 months to get the 3rd stage one heard.

after that as i was not happy with the outcome so i put in a stage 2 and after 2 months it still had not been heard. the manager and area union rep (we don't have a rep at our office) keep telling me to hang on and hang on even tho i have specifically asked for it to be heard no matter what. last week i put in a 2nd 2nd stage grievance stating the same reason as before and also asking for an explanation as to why my previous 2nd stage keeps getting ignored.

so im almost two years in five grievances down and only one of them has been heard.

i've tried everything i can think of. after its been dragged out so long its causing a lot of stress as i just want to get to a ET where even if it goes against me at least i'll have closure on the whole matter.

Right here is what you do............. A grievance should be heard within 28 days. If it has not, Royal Mail are in breach of their own grievance policy. You now phone HR and send all paperwork to them. They will then advise your DOM to appoint an independent investigating manager. You also state that you have been victimised simply for putting a grievance in. Check your home insurance to see if you get legal assistance. If you do call the insurer and try to get legal costs covered.

There is a major problem with RM management. And it is this. They think they a law unto themselves and they are NOT !!!!!! There are employment laws that must be obeyed by all and RM doesn t.

As for the union. They state zero tolerance on bullying and harassment and it simply isn t true. But WHATEVER you do do not let this rest. RM management are in serious breach of policy and it is simply that most of us (especially management and the union) are not trained in HR matters and do not realise how poor they are at upholding employment law and policy. Stay with it my friends, you will be surprised how far you can go with this one.

WarDog wrote:You should hear within 2-4 weeks of putting in a grieveance if you dont report it to your rep or phone your branch. HAVE you kept a copy of the previous greivances you have put in. When any one in our office puts in a grieveance they hand it to the rep and not there DOM and on all occasions grievances have been heard in the alloted time frame.

yes i have copy's of everything and even went as far as getting a copy of the RM procedure for managers regarding dealing with grievances from hr. i should of had them acknowledged within 5 workings days then dealt with within 28 days after that.

with the last one i handed in(fifth in total) i did make another copy that i dropped off to the rep of another local office as we do not have a rep at ours and i did not have any joy from the area rep. This was only last week tho im not surprised i haven't heard from him yet. maybe i should just hang on to see what he says but after its gone on so long more waiting was the last thing i wanted to do.

does anybody know if you can just skip the 2nd stage and apply to a ET? surely i have shown i've tried everything to follow RM's procedure and that that has got me nowhere.

maybe seeking legal help is my best bet but that's gonna cost me bucks

sorry site went down as i replied before

hi wingmanchillian,it sounds like you have all the information on the grievance proceedure ,ive done stage 1 (1 month) stage 2( 5months) im now awaiting stage 3 answer (1 month) royal mail treat the grievance proceedure as a joke, mangers from within your office will hear srages 1&2 then stage 3 from withing your area,i contacted h/r services 3 times !!ive even contacted the chairmans office ,they wont get involved with who does hearings, but they will get the managers to get on with it ,you have to go through stages 1,2&3 ,belive me when i say it feels more like a kangaroo court not a grievance proceedure a manager from within the same office will never overide another mangers/friends desicion !!!
the only advice i can give is send another grievance (stage ones) off to your local h/r office putting a grievance against your grievance not been treated withing royal mails own grievance procedure, contact them and ask if it has been recieved (always take names of people you talk to ) good luck go all the way :Applause

aye i have been in contact with hr, they then put me in touch with a regional case advisor who assured me that my 2nd stage would be heard. he was nice enough to send me out another 2nd stage form and the information regarding how it should all be dealt with. shame he then went on holiday and as yet i've not been able to get hold of him again.

cheers for the info its much appreciated. guess i'll just carry on reminding him everyday that i want it heard and maybe pop a 3rd 2nd stage in in a month or so if its still left unresolved.

just one more thing. i was under the impression that once my 2nd stage had been heard i was then eligible to take it to an ET. is this not the case? will i have to then go through a stage 3 before progressing on?

diggity damn if that is the case im probs just gonna write RM off :wave and get something els, not really worth the prolonged stress its putting on me and my family.

hi wingman dont think grievances go to ET ,you need advice on this, dont put another stage 2 in ,,,,put a stage 1 grievance in on your stage 2 (lol i know this sounds daft but the DOM /mailcentre manager will get his arse kicked)send a copy to your manager and one to H/R i bet you things will start to move,,
If its causing you stress contact EHR and ring the Bullying + Harrasment line take names ref numbers go sick and blame it on the stress of been Bullied + Harrased in your back to work !!!!when you press the right buttons Royal Mail.... will / have to sort it out ,

forgive me im a little confused now

if i put in a stage one should it just be because i have not had my stage 2 heard or should i list what my actual grievance is as well?
or do i carry on pushing for my stage 2 to be heard while also putting in the separate stage 1?

if i do this plus the harrasment and bullying that will be seven grievances i've put in total regarding the same matter :arrrghhh :cfo

what i meant to say was if they are not taking your stage 2 in royal mails own guidelines seriously(is it all stages withing 28 days and notice of interview within 5 days of complaint?) you can put a grievance (stage 1) in against that fact,,, i did that and H/R kicked off because its there rules the management are breaking and unless you make them aware nobody will know out of your office as to what is goin on[/] ....by taking it out of your office the managment have to do it properly sorry if i confused you ,hope this helps,,,,,,,,i bet within a week of a stage 1 grievance complaint about your other stage not been treated within the spirit of Royal Mails own proceedures and time scales Royal Mail are not showing you any duignity and respect and this is causing you undue stress at work and also at home,i would aso mention that you would like some help with the stress this is causing (some good sound bites there lol)show this to your rep get the ball moving the managers will crap themselfs lol :pray :whistle

cool i get ya, much appreciated for the info.

i'll get back onto HR see if i can chase up my case advisor. probs wont put in the stage 1 though just cause thats what i did with the 1st grievance. had to put in two extra stage 1's(3 in total) before the first was heard.

and yeah the stage 2 form is slightly different to the stage 1's. its got an extra tick sheet that you fill out and send to HR. My second stage 2 only went in last week so maybe when HR recieve the extra sheet(again)they might act on it.

there are different forms for stage 1 +2 +3 H/R only get involed really at stage 3 (but its good to keep them in the loop) they will pass stage 2 back to your office stage 3 they allocate another manager ,your manager should have given you a stage 2 form after stage 1 desicion
