Non CWU member - wants to strike

Non CWU member (no idea why he doesn't want to join) would like to know how he stands on not coming in when we're on strike.
Am I rihgt in thinking that he can refuse to cross the line, or can RM sack him, for whatever they can make up, I'm sure we had a new starter last strike who hadn't join, not come in and he was OK, but it does seem as though RM are getting nastier this time around.

The chances are the manager will not know he's not a CWU member anyway,but he can join now or on the day and he will be covered by the CWU as such.

he can strike like the rest of us (members) but, as soon as he walks back in, the managers can suspend him for taking industrial action and would the union back him up ? Bollocks mate. join the union and then we will stick by you.

I did ask him if he wanted to join, and he didn't, I've no idea why, but as we had nearly 50% go in last time, any that I can get to support us, I'm grateful, I do think we'll have less going in this time, as we've just been informed we've got to save 3% of hours, no special leave, no lieu days - and of course no unauthourised OT, this has to be checked with area manager.

If he doesn't want to join, he,s out on his own. That's why we pay subs to our union. Don't worry about him, let him do what he wants and pay the consequencies.

just as a side point, there are people who work for rm who are legally not allowed to join a union, special police constables and comissioned territorial army officers are not allowed to be members of organisations that provide financial support to political parties even if the member withholds his levy

the guy is also ,ofcoarse perfectly within his rights to go to work as normal.but if he doesnt want to,he can book a day off,im sure the manager will let him...or just claim that he feels threatened crossing the picket line..

We have people who are not CWU members for various reasons who don't come in during strikes.
It would be good if they did join the Union though.
