Anyone heard about the plan to revert all of your office's duties to 8 hour days (including Saturdays) over the Christmas Period?
Apparently it's only for four weeks but as we all know: once it's in, it's in.
Obviously disagreements will be submitted quoting the National Agreement that Saturdays should remain significantly shorter than the rest of the working week, but let's be honest about this, Royal Mail will just exhaust the IR framework with us and just implement by Executive Action anyway.
There has never been a more crucial time in my opinion to get a 'Yes' vote, but more importantly the agreement that is reached (if one is?) needs to be one of a clearly defined structure and contain as much clarity as posssible.
We all know that the Pay & Mod Aggreement was open to interpretation by both sides but this time there can be no grey areas that can be distorted, nor any scope for cherrypicking parts of the aggreement.
Management are feeling the stress in this current climate of I/A and are trying to pass this onto members up and down the country, but we're sticking firm. I believe that the areas affected by I/A have been left isolated for too long but we now have a National Ballot and we must do everything within our power to urge the membership to vote yes, because we may or may not not like the outcome at the end of this dispute but at least we've got to try and fight for our livelihoods instead of taking it lying down. I'm sorry if this seems a little 'long & ranty' but Ineeded to get it off my chest.

Wouldnt work...where would they get the 3 hours from to add to saturdays? Weekdays? No chance - cut offs galore over christmas.

RM are mad to try this. It would be a disastrous experiment.

I don't understand this.
If Saturday is a 'shorter day' than 8 hours then other day(s) must be longer than 8 hours to give a 40 hour week.
So if in December Saturdays are increased to 8 hours then the other day(s) will be reduced to 8 hours so that's no benefit to Royal Mail, unless overtime is worked - and that's about as likely as Crozier volunteering to help out delivering and taking a pay cut.

They want the longer Saturdays because it is failing the USO,(or most offices are). Mailsort gets left.Under the USO licence,this is now 1st class.In fact in some offices stamped mail gets rolled over.The Monday to Friday times would only be shorter by a little.Again,the Monday to Friday members fail to take their meal relief and come in early and use their cars. The business want them to continue this on a Saturday and work longer.
Also the business has now made it quite clear that it wants rid of the Single Delivery Agreement.It is a noose around their neck.

If this latest executive action does'nt make members wake up..I do not know what will!!!!

Mailsort3 dosent go on a saturday.

But what I've noticed over the last few wks on thursdays & Fridays we are stuff with mailsort 3
& we have very little stamped mail .
Then on saturdays there is very little mailsort but tons of stamped items

We smile politely and sort what's in front of us for as long as they want. Take our 40 min meal relief which takes us over official start time and do the job as required means we exceed our Sat finish time. Pain in the arse but regular cut off by relief staff and overtime claim by others causing havoc with manager and area manager ............ and all perfectly legal .

Same at my office.We dont care what they put in front of us,we sort until told to stop as we have our hours and that is that.A couple of saturdays ago the dom came from his office after a long phone call to find us still sorting.We had moved on to mailsort.

He went red and told us to get on our own duties.Plenty of cut offs on that day.

Well the national agreement only says need not be scheduled for delivery,nothing about ASAP for Monday, so you only doing your job properly. Its a mangers job to manage not OPG's.
