Car insurance for delivery

Hi

Does anyone know what type of car insurance i need for my car as i use it on deliverys as im sure you have heard about employees getting prosecuted for having the wrong class of use on there insurance policy, i have beed told you need business use on your policy but my current insurance provider (admiral) will not cover me for using it in a commercial capacity (delivery) and current quotes for this are a extra £300 more which i cannot afford.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

Class 1 business insurance only covers you for occassional business use. it usually specifically does not cover delivery of mail, what i would suggest is ask your dom for a copy of the insurance document that should be on a notice board at work which contains the use of private vehicles on delivery, then goto your nearest police station and ask them if you are covered

It cost me an extra £10 ish a year and my insurance company knows what I use it for.

Don't rely on RM's rubbish 3rd party insurance if your car is worth anything more than scrap value.

I get a free one even if I don't use it. Bus drivers round here let you ride for free in uniform

You get the odd one that does here, but most charge you in a morning and in your way home, so I used to have to buy a pass when I caught the bus - it's about £13 a week now, more than it costs me in petrol.

I looked into this insurance for cars on delivery as my union rep wasn't much help and manager hadn't got a clue so like always I do my own detective work. I spoke to my insurance company about what I was wanting to use my car for and was told you need class 1 business, which means I can then use it for personal use and also 1000 miles a year to use it to drive to the start of my round and back again plus I move my car 4 times during my walk. Not sure how much extra it is exactly but it is about a tenner. I know my round well and how long things takes me to do so up till now it does work to my advantage, however if we are to absorb more walks then I will be rethinking using my car as im not going to use it for rm advantage only my own.

1,000 miles a year thats not a lot

If you have 6 weeks holdiday a year and 8 days PH (and working 5 out of 6 days a week)

That means you work 222 days a year roughly.

1000 / 222 = 4.5 miles a day total business use. Lets hope your duty is not further from your DO than that otherwise you'll be driving without insurance.

Dont use your car. i dont understand how people from my office have been sacked for using thier cars yet people on here talk about insuring their cars to deliver mail?

And there are more of these idiots out there 'we use it for our benifit' like sh*t you do you know you can't do your job unless you have a vehicle so just why not stop save your car for your use not as a delivery truck . very surprised that an insurance company will even consider useage for haulage of mail unless of course your not telling them that the intention is for mail haulage for royal fail .
