Maybe not but without the Union you will have no chance of going full time.

If FT get a reduction in hours to a 35 hour week, perhaps RM will have to increase hours of PT staff.
But I wouldn't count on it.

You might have to apply for full time reserve jobs if there is one up. For a walk with full time job almost impossible.

RM are going for broke in pursuit of their cherished aim of imposing the Dutch delivery model. Briefly, 84% part time workforce , maximum p.t. contract 16.5 hrs.

They suggested job changes/alterations in our office. A letter was put up to apply for various jobs, one being a full-time parcels driver. On 25 hrs, family and kids, I applied and was the only name down. A few weeks later, the letter was taken down. I inquired about it later on.
"We've changed our minds" was the Managements reply.

Talk about having the rug pulled from under you!

Apparently, one lad who occasionally does work in our office is on a 1HOUR PER WEEK contract.
He'd be better off on the dole!!! And you wonder why the UK Economy/Unemployment level is in the s**t...

The chances of you going full-time are slim, but its not just in the postal industry this happens, its happening in many other sectors. Don't you have any chance for a few years, you may have a chance if they still have auctions where you are

When I was studying Recreation/Leisure in college, 1981/82, we were told by a lecturer that : "In the future, we will all have much more leisure time, more machines doing technical/menial jobs, many more Part Time jobs, BUT...With less money to spend. Only fully employed/well paid people will have the opportunity to take advantage of this new situation."
Well, I didn't really listen or believe it then, but Boy, the chickens have come home to roost now.

If you look in the downloads section,i think this still falls under the way forward agreement.
Basically,an auction is another name for a full office repick(based on seniority)this can take
place when a major change takes place(say the introduction of CDV's)or if a certain percentage
of duties advertised,remain unfilled.
In the past,if a full-time member of staff left,you could replace him and be made up to full-time,
however with the onset of walk sequencing this is virtually impossible.
Depending on your age,you could ask about an apprenticeship,which is supposed to guarantee
you a full-time job at the end
If i was 20 years younger,i'd look for a job elsewhere,easier said than done i know.

Ive been here a year now and was made full time, with a 25 hour contract originally, we had a ballot and ended up going for 4 hour walks, 2 people were made full time and I was one of them, thats the only reason I got full time.

We've just had a lad leave to go to Uni, but because he will be at home, they have offered him a 1 hr contract for him to work Saturdays only !!

We have 5 duties vacant, unless the DIM can get staff from other areas on a 40hr contract then they will be 25 hr contracts, no one in our DO are ever offered to be made up to Full-Time.

So for our Part Timers the answer would be never.

If the Union are requesting a reduction in hours, then there would be no Full Time jobs unless Royal Mail changed Full Time to say 37 hrs and all the ovetime knock-on effect this would create!
