Perhaps it is because we are privileged to have one of the world’s finest postmen in our village that my sympathies in the tiresome dispute in the Royal Mail lie more with the other ranks than with the officer class. I know there are some truly prehistoric union activists in the business, and they need a jolly good smack. But they are encouraged in their absurdities, and their members in their support of them, by the truly idiotic incompetence of the management. Every new initiative seems to make matters worse.

I admired the late President Reagan for many things, but his solution to the air traffic controllers’ dispute in 1981 was perhaps his finest hour: he sacked the lot of them. It is time to do this with the clowns who run the Royal Mail, and to start again.

Read this article myself and was gobsmacked that the normally reactionary Simon Heffer should come out on our side. We won't be seeing much of this in the Telegraph over the next few weeks.
