We deliver a lot of mail for TNT, UK Mail etc.

None of these companies have a door to door delivery system.

So eg:

TNT charge the customer say 34p per letter first class

We charge TNT say 24p first class to deliver it for them.

So logically why don't we go direct to TNT's customers and say we will deliver your mail for say 28p

Am I missing something ?

It would cost these companies billions to set up a mail sorting and distribution system to rival ours, and for the amount they handle surely it wouldn't ever pay ?

We charge something like 13p, at least I think that was the figure doing the rounds a while back. So they can still undercut us and make a profit. The DSA price was set way to low.

As far as I know we charge 14p an item for our competitors, this is worked out by deducting our procecessing charge from the 38p by postcunts and its meant to cost us £1 to deliver a letter, where is the fairness in that, not that us mere postslaves should have to bear this burden.

my DIM told me if we approach a customer eg sky and offer a rate of say 23p then TNT can go in and under cut us,
but if TNT go in and offer 23p we can offer say 22p but TNT can then go back and unercut us but we can only do one approach.

This in addition to giving them hugely a discounted rate of 14p an item.
This was governments\Brussels theory that it would give our competition a boost .The argument was that as a monopoly we had had an unfair advantage.
The irony? has it encouraged any companies to invest in delivery infrastructure,ie postman, post boxes or sorting offices.
