national ballot and strikes

I thought the national ballot was begining tomorrow so no strike action could take place whilst the ballot was on , yet more dates have been announced for the next 2 weeks has the national ballot been postponed?

No,strikes as normal,it wont effect the ballot which is still going on.I'm off wednesday

in a word "no" .... these strike dates announced are from individual units that balloted for strike action before a national ballot was announced

All those areas that are striking have had legitimate ballots so are free to have strikes as and when they want so long as the correct notifcation is given to RML.

National ballot is still very much on, ballot papers have been despatched and some of us have had them, so i presume impossible to postpone now even if there was a desire to do so.

but surely if there is local action taking place that then delays ballot papers coming through and being returned ..but then again the strategy of the leadership of this union has been bollox from start to finish so it doesnt surprise me, management must be laughing at how fragmented we are

Doesn't matter about posting paper early at the end of the day the organisation of this has been crap and hayes, ward and everyone else has to hold their hands up and say we are to blame for this being such a mess when there has been offices taking IA for months and some offices are yet to ballot...slap Hayes and Ward about the face with we are a national union so we need national action when we are attacked and not 3 months later

Royal Mail will, in my opinion, mount a legal challenge to the validity of the ballot result because strikes were ongoing during the voting process

legal advice is that it is not ilegal to take strike action during the ballot process providing you inform the company conducting the ballot process. it is then their responsibility to decide the next steps. Thats why a union conducting an industrial action ballot has to appoint independent scuritneers to count the ballot papers and to declare whether the ballot has been carried out in a fair and reasonable manner and in line employment law.

Plus Royal Mail have been declaring on radio shows , tv news and in the press that the backlog is under control and that the strikes are not having an effect. So they would have to argue against some of the stuff they have already used publically.

:Look Royal Mail will challenge the ballot process but they are more likely to challenge the cwu on records etc as they would have to challenge the independent scuritneers on the other stuff. But what I can say is that unless we keep the strikes going then we will let Royal Mail off the hook and will probalby legthen the national dispute.
