Car drivers on delivery
At work this morning having a chat to one of the lads as I’m taking him out on delivery, talking about this and that as you do. We started talking about car usage on delivery – he tells me he had to wait for his first bag yesterday for nearly 40 minutes – I was a bit perplexed as I know he has a car and uses it to get to his first delivery point, then does the duty. Anyway to cut a long story short he has got sick of bringing his documents in to have them checked so now he has to get his first bag delivered to the delivery point by the shepherd (It appears because he is not carrying any mail in his car he does not have to comply with the checks) – he drives to the delivery point waits for the Shepard and then returns to his car when he has finished his duty to toddle off home. Just thought this might be solution for those whose duties are a good distance from the DO and feel they have no option to use their car for family and personal reasons.

He drives to the walk then waits for a driver to deliver his first bag? I bet that's frustrating, our drivers turn up anytime between 10.30 and 12 depending how busy they are!

Re: Car drivers on delivery
Simple answer to that is it's RM's job to provide the means to get him to his walk, be it bike, van or walk, he's a fool using his own car, end of.

yep it is RM's job to get him to his walk. but not their job to get him back to the office to pick his car up when he's done his walk. that's why he take's his car out and then wait's for the work. same as my office.Pegman wrote:Simple answer to that is it's RM's job to provide the means to get him to his walk, be it bike, van or walk, he's a fool using his own car, end of.

nope it's not sorry. we have been told once we're out on our walk's we finish on our walk's and we have to make our own way back to the office to collect our car's. that's why we drive out to the start of our walk and wait for the van to turn up with our first bag of work and then the driver's pouch the rest of it of and we collect it on our way round.andybfc wrote:"but not their job to get him back to the office "

If your boss insists that it is not then the posties should time how long it takes to walk back to the office and then cut off accordingly so that you can finish on your time at the D.O.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.
The time has come for union.

Re: Car drivers on delivery
I am sure that it is RM's job to return people to the office, but it isn't standard practice. I have said it over and over to people that the only way to stop the RM's onslaught on our workloads, is for us to have official clocking in and out procedures. Would anyone use their cars? Nope. Would anyone rush? Nope. Would people take their breaks? Yep. Would anyone come in early? Nope. Would there be enough bag drops provided by RM? There would have to be, simple as that.
It's so obvious that RM want their cake and to eat it. They want us to continue using methods which save them money at our expense and save us time, and when we save this time they want it for themselves under the utilising all paid hours we agreed with them. Will people ever wake up and smell the coffee or will they carry on as long as they can at least finish 5 minutes before their time, even though they are doing a man and a halfs workload?
Disputes like the one we find ourselves in now will keep coming and going until we get official clocking in/out procedures along with agreed workloads and standards. End of!!!!

Precisely!!!!
We used to run around ,no breaks ,doorstepping and getting in early. We did this to make time for US.Royal Mail in their wisdom decided that he time we make is actually theirs. We now get in on time and take our breaks. We write out our cards on the doorsteps,we dont run and consequently get back at our proper times. It is basic maths ,but they dont get it.We start delivering An hour later so get back an hour later.I swear our management still do not see this.

Its a bit like getting a job at TESCO's and providing your own check-out tillPegman wrote:Simple answer to that is it's RM's job to provide the means to get him to his walk, be it bike, van or walk, he's a fool using his own car, end of.
If RM don't provide you with the bag service you need to complete the duty, then stand and wait until your duty time is up and CUT OFF, they'll soon start getting the bags out to you - and if not then SMILE as RM would be paying for you to stand around and it would be their fault!

Clocking in and off oh man that would upset so many, but solve the unions problems overnight - bring it on plsbanner18 wrote:I am sure that it is RM's job to return people to the office, but it isn't standard practice.
