Stress at work............
I'm currently off work due to stress and I was called to a meeting with my manager earlier this week, to be basically lectured that he finds it hard to believe the job is tiring me out to the extent it is affecting my home life. He gave me a verbal list of instructions of how to sort my life and stated the fact 'I need to really think if I want to stay in this job'. To say the least I was shocked. It just sums up the extent of the ill feeling and negative attitude towards staff. Needless to say, I came out more stressed.

Re: Stress at work............
Stress at work shouldn't be happening unless your have personal issues outwith work. The job isn't really a stressful job, stressful jobs are trying to save people. Ok you may get a few customers moaning but just direct them to the manager.
If people are stressed its because they finish well past their time, you have to grow some b*****. Work your hours, cut have if you too, remember to phone. Take your breaks. Just ask your union rep rm working procedures and follow them. The doms will not like it but rm procedures.
They will threaten to take you conduct code etc, just call their bluff. The can't do you for doing your job.

The job does stress people out though, depending on what kind of person they are - i've seen more than one Postie crying at work.steven100 wrote:Stress at work shouldn't be happening unless your have personal issues outwith work. Work is a big part of your life and so can be responsible for stress, although stress is not the real condition but usually an anxiety problem which leads to all sorts of things (insomnia, depression, suicidal thoughts etc.).

YES, Stress at Work is a reality in today's RM working enviroment.steven100 wrote:Stress at work shouldn't be happening unless your have personal issues outwith work. Trust me I have first hand experience of it!
Stress at work is caused by a number of reasons.
Poor Management; bullying and goading staff to a point that you just want to 'crack him one'.
Degrading and eroding your ability to do the job [such and such can complete your walk in x amount of hours, why can't you!],lack of dignity and respect [slagging your performance off behind your back. Constantly asking you the same stupid questions,'Why are you cutting off?'
Age: this catches up with us all and affects your ability to do 3.5/4.5 hour walks at the same speed as a 20 year old!
No help from RM management on this one, if you're 20+ or 50+ you all are on a 3.5 hour walk etc
EA: Walks turned into a route march. How many of us have the time to stop and talk to the old dear living on her own these days?
Posties once served the community [check your long service awards]. Now its a quick "hello and goodbye"
This in turn leads to inexperienced posties coming in early to throw their walks in and everything which us 'old hands' detest ie not taking breaks[you are entitled to!];taking cars on delivery;running round the walks so they can complete on time, etc
This all causes Stress at Work.
20 plus years ago I thought what a lot of rubbish, how can being a postie stress you out.
Sorry, with my resent past experinces this is not true.
Think about it!

Then how come an ever increasing number of managers are taking time off with stress related issues.
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."
