Who are we being asked to strike for?

Post by celerycelery »

Is the national ballot a massive help to the problems they are having in london?. Are we striking for london?. The reason i ask is that we have 3 and a half hour town walks, rural walks are between 4 and a half to five hours, town walks come in 6am - 2pm(ish, depending on day off) rurals come in 7am till 3pm so we have later starts now, we have been lapsing 3/4 duties since the end of May and we dont have job and finish anymore. How will anyone in our office voting yes get anything out of this disagreement when it seems we are already doing everything the ballot is intending to stop?.

Well a pay rise would be nice for starters being the company are making so much profit off our backs, every division of royal mail are making massive profits and I expect next years to be even higher than was anounced this year + you should have recieved the reason why from the cwu in the post - if you are a member of the union? if not there are pleanty of posts on hear explaining all the reasons why.

sorry, pay rise thing will just cause you more enemies...as in the public. Yes, i know pay is crap and agree with what you have said about profit this year and prob the next. BUT, RM have been making a loss for years. We are in a recession where most people are reducing their working week or accepting pay cuts to keep their jobs. Yes, in a couple of years ask for a pay rise - but when firstly the country has recovered and secondly when RM have had a few years of regular growth. This could be a temporary thing.

The National ballot is about all the following :

Achieving an agreement on the delivery span , an agreement on car derived vans , an agreement on GEO Route , an agreement on performance standards , door to door , protection of full time jobs, earnings , attendance times and shift allowances and the length of Saturdays and the effects of automation.

In mail centres an agreement on the number of mail centres, the ways of working in mail centres and the future of distrubution

In network the removal of imposed duty structures .

Plus an agreemnent on no compulsory redundancies or transfers. Protection of shift allowances, protection of pensions remember the Chairman of Royal Mail has said he will close the pension scheme for existing members, protection of MTSF and seniority and resigns.

Royal Mail must also abide by National agreements including the industrial relations agreement and stop imposing change.

On top of this ensuring that we improve terms and conditions of our members as a result of future changes.

In addition there must be a process to resolve those offices not just in London where they have imposed change by executive action.

Finally we must stop the bullying and harrassment which is being systematically rolled out by management including taking postpersons off pay and forcing them to work beyond their finishing times of face this new unagreed perfomance procudure which eventually takes indivudals off pay.

With regards to London we have 3.5 hours delivery span as well that was part of the 2003 SDD agreement and we have had several revisions since then and lost thousands of jobs as well.

So in short the outcome of the National ballot effects your future as much as anyone else in Royal Mail.

i thought that was what we went on strike for a couple of years ago and our glorious CWU leaders urged us to say yes to.
we already do lapsing/absorbtion 3.30 hour deliveries etc.
if they want to bring in part time contracts for new starters and im on the sorting longer and throwing off part time walks absorbtion lapsing etc etc then i will be out on my own walk later so i either cut off or book docket either way it will cost RM money to pay me or bring in casuals to complete what cant be done.
i have an 8 hour day i have told management i will do whatever they want me to do in my 8 hours.....if they expect me to do 9 hours work in that time it WONT get done for free.
i dont know what goes on in other offices apart from what i read on here and it seems some have it really bad and others have it relatively ok, im 1 of the lucky ones as i can complete my walk in 30 mins less that Geo route Pegasus says it takes.
rather than go back early and show how quick ive been i go home for a bit and go back at the time i should be done.
to many people have in the past boasted to management about how quick they can do a walk so they can get back and do the overtime they have volunteered for (THATS 1 OF MY PET GRIPES) no docket should be done until after your normal duty time and that may have to make RM have a rethink about some of there staffing policies
this job is fu**ed due to our own stupidity in the past.....times have changed and our attitudes need to as well
come in on time...use your drivers for your pouches and transport if you cant use a bike....work your full alloted hours and no more can be asked of you.....although i dont agree with striking over certain issues, as a member of the CWU i will abide by the descision of its members if a yes vote is the majority
i prpbably havnt put this across very well but i hope you get the gist of my post

it could be one of the MANY offices where pegasus didnt work last year and the walks were re altered to get the work out and called "3.5 hour duties". If this is the case RM WILL be back with pegasus (as they have with many offices and has gone on to fail again) they are 100% committed to this system.

No need to be sorry but you asked and I am just giving you my honest opinion (thanks for the scoop on the recession by the way) but I am going by all the cuts we have made over the last few years including our pentions to get this company where it is now for what seems like very little reward.
I could stomach a pay freeze if the company was struggling but they are not and with overtime a thing of the past (for most) coupled with savage attacks I think we must concentrate on higher basic pay which we all deserve - not mickey mouse shares.
As for upseting the public thats just life but I personaly wouldn't be upset if someone in another industry recieved a pay rise if there company had shown record profits, they obviously would have deserved it and I don't think the recession should be used as an excuse for the fat cats to argue otherwise.
:cfo :lfo :mfo these 3 don't worry about what they are paid in hard times, where is the example being set from the top.
Remember we haven't been bailed out like the banking sector - if we had been they maybe I would feel the same way but im sorry I don't, like you say pay is crap and this might be a temp thing so ask why they've got it because when they haven't you wont get diddly squat, except maybe a Pegasus mk2 revision.

VOTE - YES!

Well said Dingo
And may i say very well put, Although RM can F^%K their pay rise, I just want the B&H to stop and managers punished if they are found to have over stepped the mark.
And a bit of RESPECT for the work force would be nice too.

WE in our office did not go on strike for anybody but ourselves for royalmail would not negotiate with our union rep nor his area rep nor divisional rep it seams royalmail don't want to negotiate but dictate to one and all we all know that appeasing dictators does not work and it never will in any country or industry!. If one should strike it is thier decision if they choose not too it is thier decision and may it hang long and hard over their necks for the axe will fall just as hard upon the meek as the fighters!.

fair enough, you say that but when a business has just started making a profit after years of not - its a of a shaky ground. Futhermore,im pretty certain that the years they were making a loss - pay cuts and/or job cuts were still being disputed. Which kinda dampens your point
