RM are in a situation where we HAVE to deliver other companies mail at a probable loss. I dont know the figures but im pretty certain that if it was profitable to deliver mail then the likes of TNT would be doing it themselves and not just transferring bulk from depot to depot.
How can you expect to run a profitable business (which RM are trying to do) with one hand tied behind your back? Its an absolute farce that this is forced onto a business, if the regulator wants open competition then so be it but lets not have this unfairness which we have now.
Why arent the "great" and extremely highly paid leaders of this company putting up more of a fight over the payment we receive for these items rather than trying to fight its own workforce to try and save as much money as possible so it can get rammed up the backside even further ?
Im sure at some point there must have been a need for Crozier to sign a piece of paper to some kind of agreement to take down stream access mailings, why didnt he refuse ? hes paid the big money to make these hard decisions and hes failed miserably and expects us to take the strain of his failings.
Well I for one will not accept doing more and more work for less money, Im not TNTs/ UKMAIL etcs bitch .. I vote YES to the strikes because I have the backbone that Crozer and Leighton could only dream of !!

Re: The REAL cause of the problems
I can't wait for my Ballot papers to come through so I can vote YES !
there must be a groundswell of frustration and anger that a YES vote should be a massive YES, Royal Mail had a small part in that with their attitude and arrogance, do they honestly believe we will listen to their tripe of a letter begging us not to strike !!!!?? do they think we that soft and gulllable ? NO !!

how many shares do top management have in TNT, it seems to me our management are not putting up much of a fight to stop these other carriers from taking our bulk mail but expect us to make up the shortfall. :cfo :cfo

Re: The REAL cause of the problems
the same thing happened to BT because of EU competition laws.... Read about it this week. Yesterday they were allowed to start offering the same deals as other phone competitors, before that they were not allowed to offer same phone/broadband/tv deal packages, or compete on prices. This was to allow new european competitors to gain a share of the British market......thing is it has taken only 25 years for BT to be allowed to set their own prices!! So, RM have a bit of a wait me thinks

Re: The REAL cause of the problems
I'll tell you why he didnt refuse, because they thought we'd get left behind when these fly by nighters took the mail. What they couldnt see (and every postman in that land could) was that these other companies would never have the man power we have to deliver letters all over the country at a fair price.
RM could and should have ridden out the storm, which would have been a very short one, until TNT and UK mail etc realised they couldnt do it.
But NOOOOOOO they jump in and sell us and themselves down the river with DSA.

The real cause of the problem is NEW LABOUR with it's i know best attitude we will tax pensions FRS-17 accounting procedures the very first thing they did and not soon after OPENED the MAIL-MARKET up too competition while the rest of Europe has not yet even considered doing so!. Is it any wonder why this country is in such a mess give the failed capitalist system a freebie from all of us to prop up the greedy bankers and hammer all the taxpayers for it including all the postal workers!. Tax take down as unemployment rises deficit grows while GRODON BROWN and his merry clowns :mfo + pat mcfadden and royalmails :cfo hillbilly management live the life of the rich and famous of the backs of fewer and fewer REAL WORKERS!.

Re: The REAL cause of the problems
totally correct, they completely misjudged the capabilities of the competitors. RM has AMAZING infrastructure which would cost billions for a TNT to replicate especially when they wouldnt be guaranteed a % of the market as any number of companies could set up a mail delivery service. Theres no way they could take this on, its far too much of a risk and the margins are (obviously) too slim.mclovin wrote:I'll tell you why he didnt refuse, because they thought we'd get left behind when these fly by nighters took the mail.
