traffic figures , the lie

Post by mandelsons_toenail »

My manager constantly harps on about this years figures to last years and that mail is down

Someone on here said RM have changed the way they measure items now so they cannot be compared

Any more info on this so i can stick it up my managers arse in the next WTL

same at our office we had this argument with our dom.We were told that its done on wieght, which dont make any sense because if one day you have 10 cages full of m3 catalogues maybe about 300 to each cage for example this will wiegh more than 10 cages of lets say a bulk delivery of gas/phone bills which you will deliver to almost every door taking you at least 3 and a half to 4 hours to deliver and we get told to lapse as there was less mail the previous day based on the wieghts and not volume lol.
Oh and there now telling us they can see into the future as they can forecast next weeks mail based on the previous week and can tell us what days we can lapse.

Sorry but Doms lies have been going on for years. Anyone that believes them must be really naive.
RM changes are to suit them, if anything doesn't add up they'll change so it does.

Again the our union should be challenging them on these figures.

Personally I would say that the actual volume is mail is certainly down from 2-3 years ago - however there most certainly is more weight now, with so many catalogues and packets coming through. Those catalogues weigh a bloody ton and seem to be a daily occurence now.

Your DOM saying that we have less weight now than in the past is garbage - the mail in my office doesn't even get weighed in anymore anyway!

Over half of my street have had Screwfix catalogues but no-one has asked for them, also we've been getting various other heavy catalogues. My brother lives in North London and he has also been recieving various heavy catalogues and when he rang a couple of the companies asking why they had sent them he was told that he had rang them and requested it. I was told I requested my Screwfix catalogue by phone also, but I have an account with them so why would I request another catalogue. I think someone is making a lot of phone calls to these companies on our behalf. It makes me wonder who is making these calls.

I ask my manager how figures can be down when I have more bundles for a section of my walk than I did 2 years ago, this dose not include packets or thick mags either - he is unable to answer me. And as more and more people start to feel comfortable with ordering online I expect the packets to get even heavier, surley as royal mail charge by weight this will end up counteracting any slight drop (if any?) on the letters side.

Who cares if some of the mail we deliver has not been directly asked for by the recipient ? Screwfix and companies like them pay Royal Mail postage to deliver their catalogues. Some of that revenue pays your wages. Are you really saying you want want RM to turn business away during a recession ???? :arrrghhh

Reminds me of a BR employee who complained his job would be 'a lot easier if it weren't for all the passengers we have to deal with'

Carnoustie - Jack Mehoff is not a RM employee more of a concerned citizen with a strong Union background I think. http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 14#p182714" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Screwfix
Saga
National Trust
Holiday companys sending thier door stops out.
Christmas door stops.
These are just a few of what we have had over the last week or so,if anything is over a kilo it should not be on a bike it should be treated as a packet, had it told to us in waste time learning,so thats what we do chuck it on the van but they dont tell every one about the 45% increase in mail being put into the system under the DSA banner,25%increase in packet traffic, what they do now is rely on the MC to take the traffic figures, the DO,s dont measure any real traffic figures anymore and as i had it put to me from the MC staff im not booking the crap in it's not my job, traffic is jobs i believe and here we have the staff the other side of the doors telling us they dont care it's not my problem, what chance do we have it's just gonna be left to the managers to keep making it up.

The crux of it is we are now using MIST instead of WLA,your manager is a twat.
Dingo wrote:The problem i have is when Royal Mail removed WLA by weight in delivery offices and replaced it with MIST ( traffic recording in mail centres ) they said that delivery offices were over stating traffic by up to 17% and traffic and revenue did not match. The agreement talked about parrell recording to viafy traffic figures in delivery offices and in mail centres this did not happen. In fact when you refer back to previous traffic data, the loss of traffic claimed is often the traffic which Royal Mail said we were over recording and was never there in the first place. So the arguement could be that we are still delivering the same amount of traffic as we used to its just being recorded more accuately.

And just to add to that point, one example. The long agreed standard measure of flats per tray has been arbitrarily altered by RM. The previous agreed average figure arrived at after studies by the govt.agency Kinetic and signed off by both RM and the CWU was 70 flats, RM have now unilaterally decreed that a tray no longer holds 70 flats but 40 :hmmmm
